He really did say that

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Github, the first enterprise cloud solution to reach zero nines reliability
6·7 days agoLow to average reliability is fine if the service is cheap, and if that avoid the need for backup diesel generators in datacenters.
I doubt this applied to Github:
Microsoft to use diesel-fired generators as backup power for data centers

Politics@beehaw.org•‘Get your own oil’: Trump launches tirade against Europe for not joining Iran war
5·9 days agoStarting a war likely on false pretense, without consulting NATO allies. Then blaming NATO allies for not taking part in that mess. Then claiming the oil crisis that results from his war is not his problem.
I’m on the fence on whether to put Trump in the chaotic evil or chaotic neutral category.

Australia@aussie.zone•Government halves fuel excise to cut price on petrol and dieselEnglish
6·11 days agoEU member states took different approches: targeted tax cuts for truck drivers, or targeted 100 EUR subsidy for lower income households to spend on energy (fuel or electricity), or general energy tax cut for both fuel and electricity.
The idea being to either subsidize fuels for folks who must use fuel. Or subsizie energy in general so that both fuel and electricity gets cheaper, so that polluting energy sources doesn’t get more tax cut than electricity.

Technology@beehaw.org•A rogue AI led to a serious security incident at Meta
14·12 days agoIt shows LLMs can do significant harm without the capabilities of an AGI.
Overhyping LLMs and overinflating their capabilities makes things worse, as people are less skeptical of LLM output.

Technology@beehaw.org•A rogue AI led to a serious security incident at Meta
31·10 days agoAccording to Clayton, the AI agent involved didn’t take any technical action itself, beyond posting inaccurate technical advice, something a human could have also done.
Producing innaccurate technical advice, with a confident tone, at scale.
If that LLM were an employee it would get a formal blame, and then demoted or fired as it continues.

Europe@feddit.org•A new way to measure poverty shows the US falling behind EuropeEnglish
7·12 days agoAverages are affected a lot by outliers with very large values, and the effect is larger when there’s large inequalities. If measuring by income or wealth (higher is better) in a stadium with 1 billionaire and 999 homeless people, the average people is millionnaire.
This study still uses averages and flips the effect with a povery score (higher is worse). It gives more weight to the other end of a spectrum, very poor persons that need 300min to win 1$ makes the average much higher.
Using median values, or better 20-80 centiles values would be more meaningful.

1·18 days agoWe’ve basically discovered an appetite suppressant that works in mice without some of the side-effects that GLP-1 drugs have
The article mention nothing on safety or efficacy in humans, nor in other primates.
They are probably trying to get attention from companies to get funding for clinical trials. But it seems early for the general public to pay attention given trials low success rates
