Special Constables in Toronto really should emphasis the “Special”. these clowns are a joke, wanna be cops that are slightly above security guard status. you see them CONSTANTLY “patrolling” around the low income high rise in City Place. that’s all they do. direct traffic, deliver documents, give rides to the court house.
They’re a collective waste of money which is sad considering TPS is itself a collective waste of money that constantly demands more.
This video needs to go to the media. Special Constables can’t arrest anyone, they’re just chauffeurs. If a TPS cop was there that’d be different as they’d just tell the specials to take them to like CAMH or something. These mouth breathers should not be A. arresting anyone and B. putting them in cuffs without someone on the sunshine list being present to tell them to do so.
Ok I’ve always been wondering about wtf these spEsHuL constables do. You’re right, they’re all over the city, but seem to be just driving around aimlessly. I had no idea they weren’t actual cops. Let me guess, average salary for a special constable is min 150k.
they’re essentially security guards for the TPS. they do jobs that actual TPS officers don’t want to do. So you have special constables for TCHC, special constables for union station/GO transit, special constables that direct traffic, serve summons/warrants, drive people under arrest to court, medical facilities, etc. that’s all they do. it’s a waste of money.
So in this video the fire fighter telling these kids what to do tracks as technically the fire fighter out ranks them. They’re errand boys for the TPS.
Arresting/detaining people is not in the mandate of Toronto special constables.
Why then are they issued handcuffs?
because one of their responsibilities is being a glorified chauffeur for people in custody because TPS doesn’t want to do it. thus the reason they have handcuffs.
