Honestly I don’t expect much of him and tisza. It’s a fairly new party, partly made up of members broken off the old party and has been thrust directly into a supermajority position. My gut tells me this would normally be a recipe for disaster. I only hope they undo the damage fidesz has caused to the electoral system - if they manage (and are willing) to do it, that alone is a major win for Hungary. Time will tell

Starts well but then descends into a bit of a don’t forget your place trope.

This difficulty is compounded by what we might call the Trump factor. Just as Donald Trump has shown that a populist movement can survive and even thrive after losing power,

Yeh if you let it. These crackpots need banishing. Power systems were built, and by that means they can be dismantled.

Peter Magyar promised to change the constitution and introduce an 8-year limit for the Prime Minister, thus making it impossible for Orban to make a Trumpish comeback. And I don’t see anybody within Fidesz that matches the voter pull of Orban.

Also, this was a true landslide - winning 2/3rds majority at 79.5% voter turnout, so the new government will be able to remove Orban’s puppets (e.g. SC, AG) and make the constitutional changes needed to strengthen democracy for the future.

Overall I’m quite optimistic for my country, even if conservative-centrist Magyar doesn’t match my views as a leftist, as he is definitely a democrat who wants to help his country.
