At least they’re doing something. “Leftists” sit here arguing why concentration camps are a good thing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[Politics] We hanged and beheaded the decadent Bourbon dynasty. Why don't we overthrow the Epstein elite the same way?
31·2 days agoIts not needed. The elections will swing back and people and the politicans are hungry for reform. Things are bad in the US but day to day is still the same for the average person. Conditions would need to get much much worse for people to consider that.

Europe@feddit.org•European money pours into Palantir: Over 100 asset managers and banks boost their investments in the controversial tech companyEnglish
2·3 days agoPalantir really is just the apple of big data analytics. Their service is very nice and its overpriced. They dont have a technological moat. There is no reason why europe cant build this themselves they have incredible engineering talent available.
I was about to say that I dont have one because I love all the music I listen to and im not ashamed of any of it. Then I remembered 2018 where I listened to KDA PopStars so many times on repeat that it still sits at the top of my music mogging the music I actually like.

linux4noobs@programming.dev•I'm nearing my first full-time week on LinuxEnglish
10·4 days agoThanks for the post. Sounds like you’re getting on very well. Some people say you can swap desktop as easy as uninstalling one and installing the new. I have done this with hyprland and ive seen this done with Gnome and KDE but im skeptical and worry that with these bigger desktops it will cause some really weird issues that would be super annoying to find and debug for a noobie.
Btw if you want packages from another distro you can use distrobox to create an image of that distro and then run the package there. You can make an alias for the command so you can run it easier. Might come in hand for your OpenVPN issue but since its a container it might also be annoying to setup.

4·4 days agoFF will find it very hard to compete with chrome. Its has so much engineering talent pumped into it.
As long as firefox is good and free im happy i never expect it to be the preformance leader again.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How should a news article website financially sustain itself?
3·5 days agoA percentage is funded by a local media budget as long as they maintain fair and accurate news coverage designed to inform the public. The rest can be subscriptions and ad partnerships. Like they can write an promotional piece and mark it as so and be paid for that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How should a news article website financially sustain itself?
12·5 days agoIve heard all kinds of cope before but “I would pay them but they dont accept my payments” is wild. Hundreds of millions of people around the world figured out how to pay for their news but somehow you are unable to no matter what you try. My 80 year old grandma can subscribe but somehow you are completely unable to. You’ve gotta agree that sounds pretty suspect.
It is less fun because having the wind in your hair and risk of instant death is fun.
Just give them something normal humans dont know 8billion people. Their name will still likely be unique in their small network of people who know them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When countries around the world start enforcing biometrics and digital passports for travel, would you still do traveling or just hide in some farm off grid?
1·5 days agoNo im not missing the point you just arent understanding the process before digital and after.
The border guard doesnt just check you passport and move you along. They document your arrival and store it. They usually photocopy your passport and take a finger print. You have to register and provide a ton of info when traveling to another country it was never a private matter.

news@lemmings.world•Trump promised mass pardons for his top aides before he leaves office: reportEnglish
3·6 days agoIts likely the pardon could be removed but getting that to apply retroactively would be even harder. However i think Americans need to do both.
Just a helmet is fine and still 99.99% as fun

The guy who made the original post is a film maker who attends these protests against ice and posts a ton of footage. This is just a light hearted clip taken from his feed of aggravating clips. It got picked up by the right wing which is why you’re seeing it.
