Not particularly, at least not by anyone other than my wife. She thinks I’m pretty great, and I just don’t see it. I think I’m pretty average and unremarkable, and the world will just keep moving along without me once I’m gone. Takes the pressure off a bit, tbh, because it makes the stakes pretty low. If no one values what you provide, then it doesn’t really matter if you meet their expectations or not.
Damn, Kropotkin went off. Pretty rad

I heard this once, and it’s stuck with me since: don’t speak for people that you don’t speak to. It helps me remember that I don’t really know the challenges a marginalized community faces if I’m not a part of it, and I should do the work of listening and understanding before inserting myself into a situation with perhaps well-intentioned, but misguided, attempts at helping.
It got easier to deal with after accepting that we’re all essentially just background characters in a cyberpunk dystopia

“Foid”
Incel shit. Doesn’t have a place here, even ironically, imo
There are residential neighborhoods in cities though, where straight roads with roundabouts and other traffic calming makes more sense than a curving a road, for the purposes of lowering driving speeds. Neither is better or worse inherently, we should just tailor solutions to the environment they’re needed in.
There’s a flipside too though. Straight lines aren’t great for suburbs for the speed reason, but once you reach enough density and the roads get narrow enough, grids make planning easier, and navigating easier for pedestrians. Roundabouts are a nice way to slow traffic through straight roads
Only from above. When you’re on foot, grid systems feel plenty variable and lively

Haha that very much feels like a case of justified hierarchy

Isn’t divorce only a sin for Catholics who don’t get it annulled? I thought divorce was more acceptable among Protestants

No one becomes a firefighter because they enjoy wielding authority over other people
Really cool video too! It’s worth a watch

Just wait until the first trans woman has an abortion

It’s a total mixed bag. You can easily have the best school and the worst school just miles apart. The best school imaginable is probably in an affluent area, in a progressive state, and is private. The worst is probably in a public school in a low-income rural area in a red state. The country is so huge you’re going to have the whole spectrum of school quality, it’s the social inequality that’s the hallmark of American education

Noooo, FCC, this isn’t a router, it’s just a computer with 6 network interfaces

David Roberts just did a great episode of Volts about this, and Kathy Hochul’s climate approach more broadly. She is making bafflingly bad decisions here

It’s newer, so it’ll take a while for Piefed to catch up with or overtake Lemmy, since most existing active communities are on Lemmy

Where did it say we have to dispose of existing ones? It doesn’t say that no products can be sold, and the article specifically says models that have already been approved can continue to be sold. I also think it’s dumb, but it’s important to be accurate.
As an old PaperWhite owner with no loyalty to Amazon, anywhere I can find a jailbreaking guide?
