yeah, that makes sense. one thing to remember though, is that if you move somewhere and don’t like it, you can leave. This decision isn’t permanent.

One thing about the US is that living arrangements are more isolating. I have friends that made local friends in Japan. I wouldn’t pick the US, but I’d say pick where you think you’ll be happy and have good friendships. But it’s hard to say as well because you don’t say where in any country good live, ie big or small cities, etc

my Chinese friends use a VPN to access blocked sites. some VPNs are blocked, but it’s totally possible

sort of, on cpu it’s slow, but if you are running a large model on something with s lot of RAM, those will be slower unless you can do multiple GPUs. the main issue is the size of the model. I ran a few smaller ones that i could fit in 16GB but the issue is that they’re not really useful

I remember reading of the lady who donated her kidney to get boss and then got fired

I started with dynamic DNS on my home server, then moved to an encrypted tunnel. the issue with ddns is that your provider may block your ports. Mine eventually blocked 80, 443, and the wire guard port.

When I switched to tunnels, with cloudflare as my provider, there was nothing my provider could do about it.

So, I’d recommend tunnels since many providers don’t want residential users hosting servers.
