yeah that money would be gone in a heart beat in Toronto today.
For a long time, I remember the Canadian stereotype (like a lot of rural US states on the CA border) was that everyone was polite and honest, in a “nobody locks their doors” type of way.
well it’s not so much that it’s more about the fact that addicts roam the TTC now more than ever. Only just recently have they stepped up the police presence around Union station (main transit hub in Toronto) to clear out the drug addicts that pretty much made the place their home. But it’s a daily thing, multiple times a day, that a subway gets stopped because the alarm is pressed because of an addict or they trespass onto the tracks or whatever.
Only takes one person to be the arsehole thief for 1000 and more to become less trusting.
