Of course that solution landed him as an engineering officer instead of a line officer.
Cannontically Nog also beat the Kobayashi Maru, except Nog didn’t cheat. Nog did it by opening negotiations with I think the opponents in this version were Klingons. He stayed in there so for so long and developed a trade scheme so complex the simulator faulted out. RIP Aron Eisenberg.

Unproven, the engineering crew didn’t have his skill and the ship got blown up before he could run down and make the modifications himself
