The first step of enshittification is being very pro-user. All of the good will from your users will build you a dominant market position so you can squeeze them later. We should resist any company dominating any market. Just because valve hasn’t screwed you over personally doesn’t mean we should just lovingly accept market dominance. The more competitive the market, the better.
It doesn’t have to go public to do that. It can get sold to private equity. The original owner can pass the business to their kid who has grown up privileged and huffs their own farts. Going public is a guarantee of enshittification but it isn’t the only way.
They take 30% of all PC game sales. If that isn’t abusing their position, idk what is.
I think this is a needlessly combative stance. If your goal is to get new users to engage with the development side, calling their criticism “bitching” isn’t going to do that. Most software users don’t have the first clue about software development and wouldn’t even know what exactly to say if given a suggestion form. The best feedback a lot of new users can give is “the user experience is clunky and unintuitive”.

I know one of the guys that this statistic is describing. He basically made no meaningful connections after college despite living in a few different big cities. He got into Jordan Peterson and “got more religious”. Weirdly, he actually isn’t interested in going to any churches. Anyways, he’s a full on fascist now and I cut off contact.
Personally, I think influencer/hustle culture, parasocial relations, personal “brands” are a rot on society coming from the worst parts of capitalism. The influencer benefits from alienation and I think that’s wrong. I don’t think an OF model is any worse than any other influencer. I also think a lot of OF models didn’t feel they had many options when they started. But the really successful ones could get out or be less parasocial or something.
The longer campaign went, the worse it got. Early on she was mocking Trump. During the DNC, she brought out union leaders. Then suddenly she loves fracking, and Israel, and she’s buddies with Liz Cheney. She wasn’t different from Biden because they both represent the status quo and everyone watching could tell.

Why the animosity?
I used to say that it didn’t matter. A person like JKR is so obscenely rich that the entire world could boycott all Harry Potter content and it wouldn’t affect her at all. But now she’s directly lobbying for hateful policies with her wealth. Now it truly is inexcusable.
