Dawg if Marilyn Gladu becomes some sort of kingmaker in this current parliament I’m actually gonna crash out.
I’m already in industry and it’s soul sucking 😭 You’re telling me they’re gonna feed on my soul no matter what?
Getting real strong signals from the universe right now that I shouldn’t pursue a Ph.D…

L’année du Bureau Linux, c’est là!
I just googled Tira-292b and you know what, it doesn’t set off that uneasy feeling for me. It just…kind of looks like Westeros? Which is based on parts of Earth so I guess that makes sense.
Alien Biospheres project
Also, thank you for the recommendation, I WILL be checking this out, if only to test my uncanny valley triggers to this a bit more. Time to experiment on myself 😭
Every other planetary surface you’ve seen is rocky dirt, icy dirt, straight-up ice, cratery dirt, or opaque gas clouds
Wait this is so true, and I’ve never even thought about it. Space photography has a lot of pictures from the Moon, Mars, and Venus (I’ve never seen those Titan photos, so thank you for the link), but there are no “real” photos of a planet with oceans. That might be where the “uncanny valley” kicks in, with my brain going “this doesn’t look quite right”. I do get a similar feeling when I see AIgen videos, so you might be onto something!
We almost certainly got no idea what its continents look like at that distance.
I understand this, but I also get unease from RNG maps from games like Age of Empires or Anno, and I’ve talked to a couple of other people who also have experienced this, so I was wondering if there was an underlying psychology to it. However, it’s not an easily Googleable query, and I refuse to ask an AI chatbot about it.
This fit MIGHT get you into Berghain.
No but seriously, why DO continents/landmasses on other planets give a sense of unease/uncanny valley (at least to me)? Is it just the lack of familiarity?
Isn’t the 7 Kingdoms just England? With Scotland being north of the wall (which…LMAO at the implications on that one George)

How many of those are actual Canadians (never mind Torontonians) vs bots, agitators, or retirees that haven’t stepped foot in Canada in years.

NPR as an entity is really good about reporting on Islamophobia compared to like…ALL of US MSM. Some NPR hosts however still fall into the biases of post-9/11 xenophobic rhetoric, especially when it comes to brown people who support Gaza.
I still wouldn’t put them on the same level as BBC and MSNBC, and DEFINITELY not Fox and CNN.
Yeah, but as you get older people a certain number of years younger than you start looking like legit children. And personally, I feel like a wider range of life experiences (on average) matter more to women than to men.
But also, this chart is flawed in that we don’t know how many people per age/per gender were asked, how they calculated variation, what the error rate is, or even what the source of the data is. It’s literally just a Microsoft Office chart.
It’s a stock image, most likely.

I’m commenting on this because I want to read/discuss it later. I can’t seem to save this post
Edit: Ok now that the Xmas hoopla is over and I have free time, I read this. What even was the point lol
These electric supremacy idiots trying to erase our fan existence. Voltage this, RPM that, PALM LEAF FANS WE MUST PROTECT OUR HERITAGE.
It’s because the federal Liberals are slowly becoming the Harper Cons, and the federal Cons are now the Alberta Wildrose crazies.
We’re seeing our parties shift to the right in real time. I’m really hoping Avi Lewis can revitalize the federal NDP, and I’m not sure what’s going on with the Bloc under Blanchet but I hope they can rally as well as a center-left option for Quebec at least.
