As an American, I completely agree. It’s gotten so bad that this attitude has leached from the suburbs where larger homes and kitchens exist into the city where there just isn’t enough space. My friends think I’m being silly for not wanting an air fryer when I already have a convection oven or an instant pot when I already have a slow cooker and pressure canner. I’m very anti single use equipment or duplicate equip for the very reason that I don’t have space and it’s often a waste of money. But it seems like everyone around me just buys whatever and doesn’t think too much about where it’s going to go or how much they will use it and I just don’t understand it :/

10·1 month agoFor those curious, this is a quote taken from his interview with Channel 5 News. I personally thought it was a really sad interview that shows just how far gone this man’s mind is. It doesn’t excuse the things he has done, but I do feel bad for him as a former child actor who has developed mental illness like so many other former child actors.
I live in Chicago. What happens here is our insurance goes up to help supplement the increased coverage needed in places with increased disasters :)

2·2 months agoCompanies: Let’s layoff all the workers lower on the totem pole and replace them with AI!!
Entry level workers: How are we supposed to learn how to do our jobs?!
Companies: Don’t worry! We’ll just keep the higher level employees on longer and hope that AI can replace them before they die.

1·2 months agoSaw Send Help, which isn’t for everyone, but it’s a whole lot of fun if you’re a fan of Sam Raimi.
Also went to see The Testament of Anne Lee. I went in with limited knowledge of the Shaker movement and came out asking a whole lot of questions. It’s a decent film and it has lots of vibes, but it mostly just made me keep asking questions that I had to look up afterwards.

142·3 months agoI love the movies so much. It’s my favorite hobby! I never would have thought they would die out slowly like newspapers, but I’m watching it in real time. Social media has fried everyone’s brains and made attention spans far too short. Every time I go to the theatre now, it’s mostly empty. It’s very sad to see.

4·3 months agoI went to see the bone temple last weekend and it was just as good as the last movie! Highly recommend! But now I’m temporarily stuck at my parents house while renovations are done on my own and they insisted I watch the beanie bubble. It was ok which pretty much sums up all the things my parents like to watch these days.

38·3 months agoThis is all very well thought out and I think for the most part is true that what the original creator wanted should be respected.
2 counter points however…
-
Sometimes the creator comes up with a stupid name.
-
Sometimes cultural influence is simply more powerful than the Creator’s original intent. Exhibit A: everyone calls it “The Bean” and not “Cloud Gate” as named by the artist. Not an acronym, but I still think cultural influence should be considered.

2·3 months agoYes and it’s quite amazing. Not really anything like the original other than that it involves the Oregon Trail. I forget where, but there is a video game archive that allows you to play it in browser. Was able to play it for the first time in maybe 20 years and it was a lot of fun!

5·3 months agoAs someone who’s used this system a lot in the past year… I think it mostly works, but there are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out. The system works maybe 80% of the time we’ve used it, but the other 20% involve you needing the pen and paper to resolve an issue. There’s also some annoying usability issues such as out of stock items simply not being listed instead of being labeled as out of stock causing confusion. I do wish they would implement the timed ordering system that we’ve seen at Emagine theaters where you can order things to be delivered half way through the movie. But it’s still nice to be able to not miss anything and have a beer delivered. We’ll see how the whole screen thing works out. I haven’t noticed much of a problem with it at Emagine theaters, but it’s also not required so likely less people use it. Anyway, I’m mostly fine with this if they can smooth out some of the kinks in the app. These days we go out of our way to go to Alamo Drafthouse so we don’t have to go to the shitty AMC that’s much closer. It’s certainly an all around better experience regardless of this change.
This is how I feel about Breaking Bad. At first, you feel kind of bad for Walt and his situation, but that should quickly chang especially as the seasons go on and he reveals how much more of a piece of shit he really is. But I also distinctly remember as people watched the show in real-time how fans would idolize Walt. Really baffled me at the time.
Queer up! Worst show on television!
I was going to take this opportunity to plug one of the vexillology circle jerk communities, but they both seem pretty dead. So I’ll just enjoy this cool rat flag and be on my way.
This is why it would be hard for me to make a fruit tier list. I think you need to have 2 lists, a list for each fruit at mid and a list for each fruit at its best. For example, I tend to eat apples, strawberries, or grapefruits pretty regularly even when they are not at their best because I still enjoy them at mid so in my mind they would be top of the mid list. But something like a peach or a pineapple will be at the top of the other list even though I probably won’t eat them at mid. I have a simple rule for peaches which is if I am in the store and I can smell them, I have to buy them. Works every time and I get damn good peaches that way. I’ve always wanted to try a fresh peach off a tree and I imagine it’s like fruit heroin.
See… You have to get into the mind of a straight man from the 1950s and ask yourself one of 2 questions: Is this a woman’s thing? Or would I fuck this thing? Cars are considered “beautiful” and “sexy” and therefore fuckable by a man. I hope this has been a good lesson in outrageous sexism.

7·5 months agoI try to get this song played at every wedding I go to. Some DJs are skeptical and reluctantly put it on and are then surprised when everyone gets up to dance.
There is an excellent album by Cheekface called “It’s Sorted” that talks about all kinds of mundane modern problems. They sound sort of like Cake with a comedic element.

I was thinking more Idiocracy, but that works too. Either way we’re fucked 🤷
