…when someone seems normal you aren’t looking to explain their differences. The chance to socialize in the real world as opposed to a classroom environment is one of the things I value most about that period. We clearly have very different perspectives, in my community yours might be socially awkward. And that’s ok, it is in no way “crucial” for you to think feel or act the way I do :)

I was homeschooled for pretty much the exact opposite ideological reasons, and am so grateful to have had the chance to explore and develop without institutional constraints. Some great years traveling in a bus and seeing how a wide variety of people lived. To me homeschooling is an ideal of time commitment to a child that most people are unable to achieve, and offloading that opportunity to a centralized authority while you pursue a paycheck is a tragic compromise
Way cooler than the mural on your ice cream van, op
You were 100% playing one of the many remakes
I might reevaluate my risk assessment and consider including other media. It’s right in there with weed in terms of both risk and reward, in that you’ll probably have fun/make a lot of people happy but definitely still need other means of support. There’s a guy doing exactly what you’re talking about at pretty much every educational institution for starters, and the risk is essentially being told to stop

3·5 days agoLet me get this straight… you’re actually asking for less human input and more slop? Isn’t posting about shit/reading people’s takes kinda the whole game here?
What exactly is your point here? You’re telling a firefighter how sure you are that at some point in history a cop has helped someone in a fire because… ?
Conversely, I’ve had cops actively prevent me from helping stop a very small house fire, literally on scene just to prevent friends and neighbors from doing anything about it. Got to argue with four gun-toting meatheads while a home burned out from an everyday kitchen accident, place was uninhabitable before the fire dept showed up. Of all the dumbass places to wave your “thin blue line” flag, why here?

162·5 days agoI think this is a mistake, half the discussion here is just calling it out. “They slopped first” is no justification, it’s still a wildly resource intensive attempt to replace human output

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most transgressive art you enjoy?
11·7 days agoI can understand, disagree, and not be a dick about it. Please work on that last one. I genuinely love to talk about this stuff, but it’s no fun confrontationally. Enjoy your dead, sterile, static zine shrine if that’s what you want. Those butterflies are too beautiful to ever exist again, you’re super special for having witnessed them, good thing they’re pinned in your shadowbox. My “point” here is that this world and that culture is a beautiful, living, evolving, ever-changing Thing still very much available for you to participate in. Come out and play, or not! There was a “post your lab” thread in the selfhosting comm here just a couple days ago that should’ve been able to melt your jaded old phreaky heart, wires going everywhere, scavenged gear, tunnels and proxies and containers, people learning and sharing and experimenting and helping each other out, punk’s only as dead as you let it be

21·8 days agoAs best as I can tell your point is to enshrine a medium best known for how accessible it is into something precious. I spread my first lil xeroxed pamphlet in 1992 and last one (so far) a couple years ago and genuinely from a place of love hope to see you do the same rather than sneering at “posers”. It’s way more fun to participate than judge and I earnestly want that for you. One person didn’t make monty python, but they absolutely made your favorite zine and so can you :)
