  • Look in any thread on one of the popular lemmy instances that concerns Trump women and you will see tons of libs unleashing their internalized misogyny and body shaming bullshit

If you call them out on it they get so offended too. Like “how dare you imply I disrespect women? Me, the person who literally just posted about how one of the Trump ladies was so pretty before her “mar a lago face” and then went on a paragraph rant about her current appearance with the rhetoric of a schoolyard bully”

I think you are correct though that they won’t dogpile on cross dressing but merely because they conflate it with LGBT identities which makes them terrified to comment and potentially appear homophobic (misogyny is fine though, didn’t you see that South Park episode)

  • She became a billionaire and has almost certainly curtailed her social network to sycophants that not only agree with everything she says, they also boost her ego. That plus not wanting to lose the attention of the world will have her respond to whatever provokes the attention of the masses.

I’m not up 100% on how this all started because I genuinely don’t give a shit about Harry Potter but I would not be surprised if she made a controversial statement as a person with a huge platform, got a bunch of flak, and then once the dust settled realized how much “engagement” (read: attention) she got from it and subsequently doubled down over and over.

A great deal of human behavior is attention maintained. We have this ignorance though that “bad” attention is not desirable. Research continually shows that attention maintained behavior is perpetually reinforced by attention, not attention of a certain quality. Eg if your child exhibits an attention maintained behavior and you say “stop doing that or you’re grounded” the likelihood is that the behavior is still reinforced (and will subsequently be more likely) because attention was still achieved. The attention may have higher reinforcement potency if it is “positive” but that doesn’t mean “negative” attention doesn’t have a potentially powerful impact.

This is why the current social landscape of 3rd place community centers being social media, which almost exclusively give algorithmic favor to content that shows high “engagement” (read: annoying bullshit that many simple can’t resist interacting with) is probably one of the most toxic developments in the modern history of humanity. It encourages ugly behavior and reinforces disgusting belief systems. It is also why the age old advice of “don’t feed the trolls” is sage wisdom

  • When I’ve worked with older trans clients spironolactone seems to be what really kickstarts hair growth, especially if they get it in before alopecia really sets in and miniaturizes follicles in a way that can’t be reversed (at least with current medications, and barring surgical intervention). Estrogen too. Either way you’re reducing the amount of androgens. As a result it can be much more effective than rogaine, which works as a vasodilator to enlarge hair follicles (probably, mechanism isn’t fully understood) or finasteride/propecia, which works by blocking androgen DHT rather than reducing it.

I’m not familiar with research on efficacy for this purpose but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more effective. While some people have dramatic responses to minoxidil and finasteride many have a more minor response or none at all, even.

  • Sideload https://github.com/dayanch96/YTLite

Sponsorblock, Adblock, background play, skip, etc all integrated

Sideloading on ios is easy now unless your device was ever provisioned for a dev certificate. If that’s the case and it’s still active then just sign it with your own cert. if it’s no longer active you either need a fresh apple id or you need to use one of the kind of sketchy signing services. Otherwise you just use like sideloadly, altstore, side store, etc

Also there is no chromium on ios. All browsers use webkit and are basically just reskinned safari. Some heavily modify this (eg orion can run some Firefox and chrome extensions) though

  • that’s not what this means. Surge protection in a solar setup is more about protecting you from the grid, which generally is far more susceptible to surges and issues with inclement weather.

What they’re describing is excess capacity is being generated, eg a sunny day can fill a battery bank enough to not just power your home (making energy costs 0) but send excess capacity to power other people (making costs negative, eg you are now paid by the utility).

It can be an issue in a country like America because if solar occurs at enough scale it could seriously disrupt utilities from a financial standpoint. Then you’ll have people who are affluent and can afford to convert their home to a $20-70,000 solar setup draining funds from the utility. Then the lower SES people that rely on it would be more likely to have disruptions as companies lower budgets and potentially go out of business. This also means those low SES people have a portion of their energy costs funneled into far more wealthy landowners.

This is easily mitigated of course either through government subsidies of the utility or (ideally) having the utility convert to far cheaper green energy so they then maintain the role of the main supply. But the latter requires significant investment - a solar setup for a house as mentioned is tens of thousands and a solar farm is far more. And Americans are historically terrible at subsidies to benefit the lower class as well as green energy initiatives; we’d much rather go “the cost!!” As the world boils

  • Confirm Java is the best roux one can reasonably get outside of Japan

My additions to the box recipe: I cut the veg a bit smaller, I brown the veg a bit (including potatoes, but you have to have a dry starchy potato type like russet for this to work otherwise precooking it will lead to it just becoming mush during the boil and thickening the sauce), add honey and some kind of neutral hot sauce because Japanese “spicy” is like not even a little spicy. I actually now use one of those ultra extreme spicy 10 billion scoville capsicum extract sauces, literally a few drops in a pot makes it decently spicy and otherwise adds no flavor.

Unless you live alone you might as well make the whole box in one recipe imo. It keeps for several days, reheats easily, and it’s one of those “tastes better day 2 and 3” kind of meals. The only thing is that freezing it doesn’t work so well (sort of). Freezing busts up the cell walls in the potatoes so even if you use a dry starchy potato like above it will turn to mush once you thaw and reheat. It’s not bad, but it does change the texture with a thicker sauce and much less potato “chunks” (some bits usually survive).

The only better thing I’ve found is to make a roux from scratch but honestly it’s not that much better (and probably worse until you dial it in) but a lot more work. The roux is like $4 a box at my local market and making it is like an entire Saturday plus way more money in ingredients especially if you don’t have a well stocked spice rack
