I’ve owned two Suzuki Samurais at different times in my life as my primary mode of transportation for a total of about 12 years of my life. Somehow I managed to keep all 4 wheels on the ground the whole time…well except for the times I purposefully took it airborne. Which both Samurais also had no problem with.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Y'all ever have intrusive thoughts about accidentally dropping stuff in storm drains? (particulary when you have your phone out) And like if that happens, wtf is someone supposed to do?
7·6 days agoI feel like an intrusive thought would be more like wondering if you should intentionally drop your phone to see what happens.
Worrying about dropping your phone is actually smart and not intrusive. It’s very pragmatic to be concerned about the possibility of an accident and to try to prevent it. Some people don’t have enough of those thoughts…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your hot takes on food culture?
2·6 days agoExactly! If millions of people are eating something, then it probably tastes good! You just haven’t really tried it yet.
You’re not a special unique flower because you don’t like something. You not liking avocados doesn’t make you more interesting, it makes you boring.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your hot takes on food culture?
3·6 days agoI tried balut in the Philippines. Definitely something you should try at least once.
It’s just another food that people eat everyday that someone tried to make sound scary. Not sure why people do that.
When I was a kid they told me that Koreans eat cabbage that they bury in a jar in their backyard for a month. OH MY GOD SCARY.
Now I eat kimchi 2-3 times a week.

7·6 days agoI used to be a picky eater.
The older I get the more I can’t stand picky eaters.
I was wrong when I was a picky eater.
It’s so annoying. People base whole chunks of their personality on not liking tomatoes or cilantro or whatever. Grow up. Pathetic.

Android@lemmy.world•Motorola suddenly raises budget phone prices up to 50%—you can probably thank AIEnglish
7·12 days agoI had a 3rd Gen Moto G in 2016. It was IPX7 rated, was snappy, Snapdragon CPU, and a perfect size.
Bought a 2022 Moto G Power. Worst phone I’ve ever owned. The MediaTek Helio G37 ridiculously underpowered.
There’s no way I would pay these new prices for a Motorola G anything.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•We all know crack was introduced primarily to black neighbor hoods. Why them? Why not people in the Appalachians? Or in Asian neighbor hoods all over the west coast?
14·12 days agoAs a few others have mentioned here… it’s because they were black.
I’ve personally witnessed a racist try to explain to an South Asian friend of mine that he was “OK” because there’s black people and everyone else. I was flabbergasted because this wasn’t some nazi skinhead or something, but instead was an older white gentleman.
All racism is bad. But there’s racism, and then there’s racism in the USA towards black people, which unless you’ve witnessed it, it’s hard to understand how it is a whole other level of racism.

Hell yeah.
This scene got me so scared and I was sure Freddy was under my bed later that night and I went to my Mom’s room and barfed on her from fear.
This kid most certainly did not get a good night’s sleep.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Apparently, LLMs are so popular among incompetent managers because they have a lot in common. The logical conclusion would be to replace these managers with LLMs instead of laying off experts.
6·20 days agoUpper management and middle management are the same picture.
All members of management don’t do the actual work and the only reason for their existence is to try to get the actual workers to do more stuff for less money.
So even though we all know that their jobs would be one of the easiest to replace with an LLM, what will happen is management will attempt to replace as many workers with LLMs to justify their “more for less” existence.
The number of managers won’t go down until there’s not enough workers making money to buy the goods and services that the companies are selling. But by then we’re all screwed.

politics @lemmy.world•'Fire this idiot': Hegseth under fire over report he sought defense stocks before Iran war
29·20 days ago“Under fire”? Man that sounds serious. What are they actually firing at him, though? Like how is he being penalized by being “under fire”? What does that mean?
I had a girlfriend many years ago who asked me to disconnect the ventilation fan in her bathroom. When I asked why, she said, and I quote “That’s for people who smell when they go to the bathroom”.
This fellow human was literally telling me her shit don’t stink. I was flabbergasted…

Obviously…

Never. There is no line to cross, no milestone, nothing.
You will always be the same entity you are now. You should always work to improve yourself, but the stream of consciousness that is “you” is always going to be the same you.
Every day you wake up 1 day older and have 1 more day of accumulated experience. It’s that accumulated experience that makes people think you’re an “adult”.
If you really absolutely need to assign a binary “I’m an adult” label, I think it’s the day you realize that there is no such thing as an adult and all the people you thought were adults and therefore could handle adult responsibilities were actually just making it all up as they went, the same as you are doing right now.
