Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•China's CATL turns to powering electric ships, tapping EV battery know-how
4·3 months agoYou jest, but China produces everything on the quality spectrum, from garbage to great stuff. We’ve literally ceded all manufacturing to them. Also, the cheap trash from Temu or Shein is going to be taking a flight

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•China's CATL turns to powering electric ships, tapping EV battery know-how
4·3 months agoThat’s mostly a matter of regulation though - there’s no necessity for this type of fuel to be used in shipping, other types of combustion fuel would work fine, but this type of fuel just so happens to be really cheap because no one else wants it.
We could ban it, and shipping would still be basically completely fine.
That being said, we should still aim for electrification, but electrification is not a prerequisite to phase out HFO

As a general rule for AliExpress, if something is priced too low, it’s going to be garbage.
I’ve relied on Reddit thread advice in the past for getting decently reputable Chinese brands, which has worked well when buying various things (cycling gear, kitchen scale, mini-PC).
