  • Gawd I love drinking but I can’t do it anymore cuz very specific things (used to drink 10+ drinks every night for almost half a decade and tbh it was the best thing ever aside from the weight gain and the fact that if I kept going it would kill me) so now I’m just into some drugs I like.

It’s been ages since my last drink and I’m VERY lucky, I went from years of ultra heavy drinking to nothing cold turkey (in a controlled setting, no anti-seizure meds or benzos either) and no seizures, no withdrawals, no DTs. Just crazy bad sleep for a few weeks and then 6-8+ hours a night every night after about a month. Since I stopped drinking, I’ve lost almost 20% of my total weight, and I’m eating way more than I used to. Turns out it’s a sick diet cutting out 2,000+cal of booze every day, you can eat as much as you physically can and you’ll still lose weight even sitting around all day and working a sedentary job, never exercising.

I wish I liked THC more, but it depends on the day. Sometimes it’s nice! It’s just about time for my tri-annual heroic dose of X, though. It’s been more than a year and that’s unacceptable.

  • No worries, no rush! It’s gonna be a weekend project, I think. I’ve got a cluster of separate RPis all doing different stuff, an unused Pi 5 8GB, and some new Lenovos… I think I can condense everything to one machine hahaha.

Right now I’m running Pi-Hole on a headless Pi and OMV on a second headless Pi, the OMV is just sharing a couple HDDs. If I wanted everything on one lil Lenovo through Docker, would you have any advice for a distro? Should I just pop Mint on it and set it all up that way?

(Very new and learning, currently have a Pop! desktop that’s been a champion for game stuff while I try to find a new SSD to switch my main game desktops to Linux)

  • Our only The Big Light lives in our kitchen and I got a nice bright white bulb to put in it after years of it being empty. My reasoning: Now I can see the dirty parts better to clean it betterer!

In actuality: I’d rather clean in the dark and leave the place dirty than awaken The Big Light, too horrifyingly bright and omnipresent!

Colour changing bulb would very much help with that—I’ve been meaning to get HomeAssistant set up, so I should look into ordering some colour-changing bulbs that work with HA, thank you for the idea!

The plushies all actually get their own full-sized couch, hanging out in the living room with our cats while we’re working! I bring the lights out for photo sessions sometimes. My partner and I met ages ago and instantly bonded over our love for Pokémon since 1996-1997 (knew we loved it before it was even released in the US!) so we’ve got a kinda horrifying collection of hundreds to maybe a thousand? built up over the years. >w< My only regret so far was passing up on a life sized lucario, I saw it in a shop and set a limit for 400 or so, but it was nearly twice that… oh, and we don’t have the snorlax love sac. Our friend does and it’s incredible.

  • Oh my… I don’t think I’d classify my merry band of misfit lamps as “coherent” hahaha. There’s two or three nice lamps! …then a bunch I can’t throw away because it would make them feel bad, and by proxy, me be sad.

…I feel like someone those lamps would also set the house ablaze if plugged in and run overnight. Alas, squatter’s rights; I can’t just kick them out at this point, they’ve been here for over a decade.

My latest craze is using an RGB ring light (that I got for WFH video chats “so people cold see me better”, which DEFINITELY ever was used for that purpose and not IMMEDIATELY relegated to “Pokémon plushie collection light enhancer”) pointed upward on the opposite end of my room, turned down to medium-dim, and turned either one a cool bluegreen color, rainbow, or a warm white light which bounces off the ceiling. I love you, Ring Light of Many Colors!

  • Niiiiice! I did SLI 7900GTs when Crysis came out and it ran at like 40+ FPS even with explosions on screen! It cost me an unholy amount…

the machine I now use for Beat Saber wasn’t as crazy as the Crysis machine: it’s an i5-4790k, 16 or 32GB DDR3, and a couple SSDs. I replaced its 1070 just because I had a better card laying around. I hope it works well for many years to come! It’s also SOMEHOW inexplicably powered by a 500w bronze semi-modular PSU that seems like it’s going to go on forever into eternity… I hope so, it’s been so good to me!

  • My oldest running laptops that have never had a single issue are a MacBook Pro (2011 model, the high-end 15”) and a Lenovo gaming laptop that’s like 14 years old and inexplicably has a second video card you can take out of the side.

I use them both to this day. They have 16GB RAM and SSDs now, and never had a problem.

Quick edit: the MacBook Pro has its original battery and lasts over two hours at full brightness still, but has fewer than 40 battery cycles since it was originally a gaming machine for LAN parties I went to. The Lenovo has its original battery and lasts about 45 minutes still.
