Technology@lemmy.world•Iran Demands Bitcoin For Ships Passing Hormuz During CeasefireEnglish
9·9 days agotheres only like 6.5B usd worth of monero (compared to ~1Trilion BTC)
At 20Milion barrels of oil (/ dolars if its $1 a barrel) a day, theyd own all the monero within a year, meaning theyd have told pretty actively be selling it back onto the market for another currency to keep a supply for shippers to use. Compared to BTC where they’d need 136 years of hoarding to accumulate it all
My parents bought a house for 75k in 1985. My nan put down 35k, and they lived in the MIL suite of the house for the summers for 3 years, and rented the main house for 5k a season, and my dad paid the last 25k out of his salary.
That house is worth 3.5 million now. Cheapest property ive seen go to market in my town was 950k and that was a literal 2 room beach shack with the only shower being outdoors.
I was thinking better expression of sympathy for the loved ones.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The UN Voted to Make Food A Human Right, Only Two Countries Voted No: Israel and USAEnglish
2·16 days agoI think i ahould preface the following because it sounds more neutral than I meant it to. TBC I condone neither of these positions, nor do I mean this to be argumentative with your possition, but rather collaborative:
I suspect the objection is to the calling out of / reminder that destruction of water facilities as a war crime, which seems to be something both sides have done/ been threatening in the Iran war, as well as the call out to allow UN/ other humanitarian aid groups unfettered access in warzones. Which seems like it conflicts with Israel’s contentions with UNRWA.

4·21 days agoIn highschool, i played on a JV soccer team that 4 women on it. (We also had a women’s Varsity and JV teams, that did really well. We could hold our own against the men’s varsity team and could smoke the women’s varsity team.
TBF, we also had a Brazilian middle- schooler on the team, who was ineligible for varsity due to being 13 at the time, who went on to a pro career, and is currently on an international team!

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Okay but like the light has been green for 0.3 seconds
10·22 days agoAs a kid I was once driving back with my dad from a specialty lumber yard trip, where hed gone to pick up a ~1.5 ton, 40’ teak beam, with about 10’ hanging off the back, down low. Wed just gotten south of the city, and trafic was finally easing up, when he finally saw chance to get out of the middle lane, and went to take it.
So he threw on his right turn signal, and the guy in that lane immediately started accelerating to close the gap.
My dad just went for the switch anyway, Forcing the guy to drive off the road into the grass median ditch of lose his windshield to a massive piece of wood. All he said was “a turn signal is a signal of intent, not a request for permission.” And we kept driving.
TBF, if her dick is 0", doesnt that make her a subject matter expert?

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Musk wades into DHS shutdown, floats paying TSA salaries
38·28 days agoI mean yes, but TSA isnt going unpaid because we dont have the money; they’re going unpaid because Republicans refuse to let them get paid without ICE also getting paid, but dont have the votes for that.

I think i disagree. ‘Bilionaires’ makes it seem seem like a nebulous group of individuals, like
‘oh <insert random billionaire who hadnt been in the news lately for something evil> just happens to have a ton of money, you can’t hold that against them without evaluating their actions as an individual’
The problem is that they are a class, or rather that the class exists as a class and that they are use their power, act as and are catered to, as a class.
If there were 100 individuals around the word who just happened to have assets valuing 1,000,000,000$ or more, even if they owned shitty companies companies and were all assholes, that would be one thing.
Assuming they not associate with each other, conspire together to warp society and governments to their shared wills etc, it would be a far different world.
If they were seen as just rare individuals, governments would not bend to their whims; one billionaire threatens to offshore his buisness unless he gets favorable laws, to ignore taxes etc, the country threatens to nationalism his buisness, or just locks his ass up. I one guy is found to be bribing one or countless politicians, thats a treasonous scandal.
When a couple dozen are making these threats in lockstep, they are holding the country’s economy hostage. And when between them they are bribing all the politicians, that becomes the staus quo.
its when they act as a class that its a real problem.
