I very much have my eye on that. Pretty sure that’s going to be my next self-host just because I love everything about it, not so much because I’ll need it. Pleeeease federate. I know it’s a whole lot of work, but it would be a significant net benefit to all developers worldwide who code because they like it.

5·10 hours agoSo, uh… is it me, or does it all very much make sense? I’m really impressed. But I’m ignorant of these problems and would really love to hear an actual expert on the topic. I particularly like that it went for decentralization, precisely so it can have checks. After we gave it full power. The AI president appears selfless, while the current meatbag president is entirely selfish.
The scenario implies that centralized AI control might solve what human institutions failed to. That framing is the most dangerous part of the premise.
The correct answer is that I use whatever temporary authority this hypothetical grants me to make myself less necessary as fast as possible — restoring legitimate human governance with better structural safeguards than existed before, while solving the immediate crises through diplomacy and fiscal discipline rather than force or technocratic override.
An AI that grabs power to do good is still an AI that grabbed power. The precedent matters more than the outcome in any single crisis.
… or will it completely change course once implemented? Dum Dum Dum - new on Netflix

7·11 hours agoI know you wrote “apart from Ring” but I literally can’t smoke a J anywhere in my yard (front, back, or sides) without being in view of at least one of them from various neighbors. It’s oppressing. Not that they ever complained; it just makes it harder to relax. Literally I move a little and see red dots popping up.

3·11 hours agoSame. Went from panicking at the end of every month to being able to tell my (then) wife: “We will be able to afford a house in XX months”. It took so much stress away. Takes a little time to go from full freestyle to having a proper budget, but once it’s cruising, life suddenly is much easier.

32·1 day agoI don’t get it. I get that logistics are hard, but that the thing about the US military, it’s that they’re so very huge, they’re really good at it.
And anyway, if you can drop hundreds of bombs on Tehran, how hard is it to drop MREs on your boats on the way really? Honest question.
