Recently got banned from lemmy.worlds latestagecapitalism because one of their mods doesn’t know the difference between being anti capitalist and anti democratic.

I’m getting real tired of leftists calling everyone right of them liberals just like maga calls everyone left of them libtards.

Like I want to get rid of capitalism but I’m not going to support accelerationists that consider their fellow working class members as expendable. I reject the notion that everyone who isn’t chomping at the bit to start a civil war (that will put the most vulnerable people of our society in serious danger) is a “liberal in lockstep with fascism”. That’s a sociopathic mentality.

People born in democracies need to turn over their dirty diaper politicians regularly. That’s how we move society towards socialism while avoiding throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Well said, and a much needed voice on the fediverse.

It makes me wonder how many of them are really leftists, and how many of them are secretly on the right, pretending to be on the left just trying to provoke violence from the left.

As someone who used to be “both sides bad”, my guess is that they’re only looking at the presidential election (nothing remotely local or congressional), and they aren’t even trying to analyze it. They’ll parrot what authorities or friends in their life have said, and then continue to coast along on their ship of privilege.

I left Texas for California, and after 14 years of struggling in and out of housing, I now live in the projects and actually give a shit about people. Not just because I made bad choices and ended up where I am, but also because of systemic problems that also exacerbated my situation putting me where I am.

And then also understanding the systemic positives that helped me overcome homelessness and extreme poverty.

      Thank you.

      I have no idea tbh.

As a Canadian I’m just hoping that Americans realize their only hope is to primary the shit out of the democratic party. (We knew their diapers were full when they snubbed Sanders in 2016)

I’m sharing the hell out of Knock Down The House which lays out the steps. IMO it’s how AOC got elected that is the key to fixing America. Americans need to make that happen every single election. Systematic problems need more than 1 presidential term to reverse after all.

      1. Independent local grassroots electoral movement. Dedicated to getting/organizing volunteers, signature gathering, door knocking, everything from getting candidates on the ballot to winning in the election.

      2. Candidate nominations. AOC didn’t sign up, her BIL or someone nominated her and the Grassroots Movement approached her to run.

      3. PRIMARIES. PRIMARIES. PRIMARIES. Target establishment DNCs who clearly have more in common with corporate lobbyists than their own constituents.

      4. Run the numbers game. Only 1/4 of their candidates won. Democrats should face a primary EVERY SINGLE ELECTION.

Yeah, I wish these people calling for violence spent as much energy calling for solidarity and general strikes.

edit: No matter what kind of change we make, it won’t have a lasting positive impact unless everyone gets on board with these two things. The violence puts the cart before the horse.

I mean, the “both sides bad” has some truth to it. But they’re bad in wildly differing magnitudes. Bruising your shin and breaking your femur are both painful, but if I have to pick one, I sure as hell know which one I’ll pick on voting day. I have 364 other days in the year to work on replacing the broken system.

All the best lies have some truth to them. That and generous helping of pandering is how they get you to believe them instead of the full truth.

Some truth. But not the whole truth. And that’s the problem. In fact, that’s exactly how conspiracy nutjobs work: grab an inkling of truth, then expound into whatever direction the wind blows.

We need to call out anyone who wants the be an “enlightened centrist”, and get them to put up more info or shut up.

Because like you said, some injuries are painful, but others are devastating.

yes this is a pro democracy community

as in raw democracy; everyone should communally decide their society

however i the moderator have some beliefs that everyone would probably pick the same kind of thing if they were putting their minds to thinking about the best ways to live, and so i end up arguing for what is my own opinion on this matter as though it were best for everyone which i think it is, but i would like to essentially voice it then put it up for “the communal vote” in terms of loose general acceptance, so im not really driving a hard bargain but i do sound dictatorial at times probably and this is also a sort of semihumor of mine. im just being blunt basically. anyway, i certainly intend to in general turn this site over mostly to its participants, so fire away with whatever this site means to you. i make a lot of sites. theres a general theme of protecting the world and of using literature in new, blunt ways. i often seek to counter physical warfare with literature, which must basically be made very hard to compete with that. perhaps words can deter war! must be hard words; maybe. i have a many-panged political system. i think everyone should learn more about world history and take a sort of communal policing approach, as a starter for reversing the ills of the past. beyond that i think people should learn, enjoy, and enable science more and better. and i could/can/will explain more about what i mean by this but basically i think our ability to discover and invent is our greatest gift, and this should be focused on, rather than so many proclivities that are just sort of habit run wild at this point over much time. our lives are precious; we should reform the system right now.

      Cool.

Lately I’ve been feeling rather disenfranchised by the edge lords on the left. I teach martial arts and deal with violence as a profession. I find their attitude naive and kind of disgusting. I have sympathy for people who’ve lost their family to the system but to expect other people to endanger their loved ones, and “other” them for not wanting to do so is not going to fix things.
