The original GBC didn’t have anything of a backlight. Although the earlier Gameboy Light was the first Nintendo handheld to have a backlight, the feature wasn’t standardized until the GBA SP.
The original SP had a front light. The second iteration was backlit though.

I don’t know, playing pokemen without the ability to double the speed is painful (at least for walking around).
You can play gen 1 and gen 2 on original hardware on 2x and even 3x speed. You can play them on Pokémon Stadium on Nintendo 64 which has special hardware to insert the Game Boy modules. You have to unlock the Doduo and Dodrio modes first by finishing parts of Stadium’s tourneys but then you have an official way to play the original games sped up.

No, you should get a switch emulator and use Nintendo online to emulate Pokémon Stadium so you can emulate the Gen 1 games.
Although I suspect the switch N64 emulator doesn’t support the Gameboy adapter.

I never found it bad in Gen 1 and 2 because the maps were a lot smaller than even Gen 3. You move more slowly, but you still get to where you need to go fairly quickly.
Even the battles feel fast because the animations and text tend to be quicker. Grinding sucks though. And Gen 2 has the slow HP bar glitch.
I speed up in battles because I don’t need to wait for the bar to drop, the battle is planned and I only need one move so I just wanna spam it.
This is why I don’t get why adults play Pokémon. Even as a young child playing the original Pokémon, without any guides or any other resources, I was able to trivially make a party where I didn’t have to think. I just spam one move and win. I know you can optimize the hell out of the games, but there’s zero need to outside multiplayer. I thought the games were really fun as a child, partially because of a lack of options and partially because it’s made for children. I know people in their 30s who still play them when they release though. It’s so confusing to me.
Because going around and collecting funny elemental animals is still fun.
It’s a gaming comfort food for me. And if you keep your levels low enough, it can be challenging.
Catching all the Pokemon satisfies the hunter-gatherer urges in the brain for me, lol
I play as a Nuzlocke, self imposed hard mode. Can only catch 1st Pokemon per route, can’t pass next gym leaders top levelled Pokemon, if your Pokemon faints it’s perma dead. It’s an actual real challenge.
Sometimes games also just don’t need to be a challenge, you can have fun doing easy shit. Shame the new games run like arse though.
It is a bit, but the bike and flying and teleporting with some pokemon makes it more bearable

Gen 1 games had the bicycle, but it took a while to unlock. I don’t remember running/biking mechanic in Gold/Silver which is sad because I played Silver just a few months ago.
Gen 2 doesn’t have running, but it did indeed have a bike. Goldenrod City (the city with the 3rd gym badge) has a bike shop off the beaten path where the owner lends you a bike to advertise for his shop then calls you after you ride it enough to say you can keep it. The shop is on the east side of the city behind the department store.
You get the bike after reaching Vermillion in gen 1,but you had to center the start menu any time you wanted to use it. In gen 2 you got it in Goldenrod. I don’t remember if you had to beat Whitney first or not.

Anywhere outside I believe.
You can only enter the bicycle highway if you have a bike, but can use the bike outside and in caves (if I recall correctly).
Running shoes were Gen 3.
In my opinion, one too many Eevees. Vaporeon, Jolteon, Umbreon, and Espeon are solid choices, but you don’t need two fire types, and Flareon sucks ass. Not worth wasting your one fire stone on him.

Only the French version uses those names. English has Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon. Japanese can be considered the original names, which are (when written in latin letters) Eievui, Showers, Thunders, Booster, Eifie, Blacky, Leafia, Glacia, and Nymphia.
German, Korean, and Chinese each have different names for them and most other Pokémon too. Other languages like Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese use the same names as English.
FWIW, Eevee is basically Eevee in Japanese (aka., E.V.).
But ouch…“Blacky” the Pokemon, eh?
It seems they actually changed its official romanization to “Bracky” about 3 years ago, probably to avoid that problem. I listed them from memory and hadn’t realized it changed. Still, that old name was used on Japanese merch and marketing for decades, but not in any main series games since those only use the katakana “ブラッキー”.
Eevee’s name sounds close enough to being the same in Japanese and English that they even used the same voice clips for both in some anime episodes and Let’s Go Eevee. The official romanization just has a strange spelling.
