Sorry, all my money goes to my landlord so I can rent a basement. I have a terrible awful housing addiction and there us no signs of it slowing down.

Have you tried camping, or perhaps sleeping in your car or under a bridge?

I mean, it’s not a perfect solution, but harm reduction is improvement, right?

The regular price for a bag of Doritos has been roughly $5 at my local store for the last few years. Just the other week I noticed they started printing something like “new lower price” directly on the bag. The new price? About $5.

It’s not just the higher cost, it’s the smaller size of the bag too. Shrinkflation. Been seeing it a lot on Ruffles chips in particular.

Yeah, junk food has always been the low cost option. That’s why it exists. I hate to tell them this, but Dorito is not a boutique brand nor is it a staple item. The generic brands are roughly equivalent and half price.

I used to buy chips all the time. Now it’s not worth it, so it’s down to the occasional bag every 3 months or so.

Same, though with regular chips instead of Doritos. I just bought a bag of potatoes instead on my last grocery store trip. I figure if I’m craving them, I could just bake some or look up a recipe (if I’m feeling adventurous.) Thank goodness there are a million ways to enjoy potatoes!

I haven’t bought Pepsico or Frito-lay chips in years. But I’m fortunate that here in Ohio every county seems to still have their own independent chip company and I am happy to pay $6 for a family size bag of chips made right here in town vs $5 for a bag for mass produced crap.

I’m surprised they still think that they can get away with $3 for a 20-ounce soda, although I know the gas stations have something to do with that.

That’ll be the cold sodas. Wander over to the aisle with room-temperature 2L bottles and they’re the same price as the small bottles in the fridge. Yeah, nah, I don’t need a cold soda that much.

And if I did, I’d casually take a cup from the coffee area and fill it with ice. I’ve done it countless times (because I like cold coffee), and only once has an employee said something - telling me I had to pay for the ice. I begrudgingly paid that one time (like 25 cents or something?), but after that I figured that if an employee were to give me shit about paying for a cup of ice again, I’d just leave all my potential-purchases at the counter and walk out.

Thankfully, it hasn’t come to that. Yet. I just avoided that particular store for a while afterwards. Their competitors all sell the same things, and after this episode I straight-up asked an employee at one of the competing stores about the price of a cup of ice - just to be aware beforehand. She made a weird face and said that they never charge for just a cup of ice. Like the idea sounded almost too absurd.

So yeah. Anyway. Thanks for putting up with my ramblings.
