61·3 days agoThis is like such a cliché I wonder if you’re even serious, but there are people right now proving that’s possible. If you keep consensus-based decision-making at the center of your society, it can build the power to defend itself without allowing the space for any tyranny, even the most mundane. You do this by working at it in your every day life and knowing what you’re fighting and why. Learn about Rojava, Myanmar, and indigenous resistance in Mexico since the 90s, but also like talk to any anarchists IRL.
Yeah you have a point I don’t think I’d come at someone IRL like that over wanting to celebrate Trump’s death. I just…don’t feel any victory in that moment and already hear centrists gearing up for another right wing democrat president taking everyone’s attention.
Edit: sorry for being an asshole

“Optimization” isn’t a simple problem an llm could solve, (if llms didn’t create more problems than they solve). What’s the #1 thing making software inefficient today? It’s that we don’t have a good system for creating cross-platform apps except for through the web so half of all desktop and mobile apps just load a chrome window. We already have wildly efficient video compression codecs with hardware acceleration. Idk what you’d even set the “AI” to the task of doing
The state and capital always function as a unit. One needs the other.

No Stupid Questions•How do trains save fuel when they literally park on the tracks and block multiple intersections, with over a hundred vehicles steady burning gas all around waiting for the train to fucking move?
13·11 days agoLike yeah it’s bad. The people who run the train company don’t give a fuck about you or the workers who are being held responsible for way more train than is safe for longer than is safe for them to be working. Oh and they always have to be on call 24/7.
It’s not the train’s fault, it’s capitalism. Take the trains back, let the workers run them safely and efficiently, and this won’t happen.
The PRs in the post are made by Copilot. If Copilot made a PR against one of my repos (which I don’t think it would because I don’t use it) I would close it without looking.
It’s easy to avoid if you don’t use AI?

World News•Global human population pushing Earth past breaking pointEnglish
19·11 days agoThis article so so fucked up I don’t even know where to start. Like just the framing from the get-go treats economic development, human lives, and the ecology as equivalent in importance. But also, we know what sort of socioeconomic systems this sort of Malthusian ideology gets us, and we know what sort of socioeconomic systems (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gloenvcha.2021.102287) lead to a sustainable future (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41560-018-0172-6 ).
This focus in academia on “what population can the earth sustain capitalism at” instead of “how can we shape our lives to live as one with the rest of the life on earth” is insidious. It stokes the fires of global fascism and manufactures consent for ethnic cleansing of the peoples who we should be most closely learning from.

No Stupid Questions•How would you actually tax the ultra wealthy?

This still kinda reads as saying “thank you” to the cops haha
I don’t like this framing, it makes it like Jewish people are specifically the problem as opposed to the concept of an ethno-state in general.
Trump’s a lot older than Vance. Maybe he was 6’3" once and has settled enough to bring him down to 6’1" but still says his full height.

I haven’t figured it all out, obviously, and don’t know exactly the right way to talk about this stuff, but I know this framing is wrong, because when viewed from a certain angle, one could look at any medication for chronic illness this way. I think addiction is a symptom of broader systemic illness, in the same way as body weight correlates inversely to elevation (and hence positively with both toxin accumulation and poverty), or how other diseases corelate with the stress we’re put through.
