    So, hear me out…

If all LGBTQ+, minorities, and women were to walk around with headbands or necklaces of the Israeli flag, then anyone doing them any injustices could be tried and prosecuted as domestic terrorists, no?

~I’m only kidding, but could you imagine if ICE couldn’t kidnap and disappear immigrants that were wearing Israeli gear?~

~Edit: I just realized the community I commented in. My apologies about the ICE comment, but the sentiment stands.~

I would strongly recommend you take your own advice and block people as necessary. Your comments are bordering on goading, and that too will not be tolerated.

You can phrase it however you wish, but to continually harass people and their mental capacities will be a fast track to your being banned. If you have a beef with that, you’re welcome to take that up with the powers that be. But I for one will not tolerate anybody calling out anybody else’s mental capacities for any reason.

I just got around to looking at your links, and as a web developer I can tell you that’s a lot even for professionals to read, digest, and understand; let alone most people posting to a comic strips community on Lemmy. Not that I am suggesting the people here couldn’t understand it, but that it’s a heavy lift for the context of people’s usage. That said, I did find a link to demonstrate how to add alt-text to Lemmy images using markdown, and I also suggested people transcribe their posts into text and gave an example comic that does that. Hopefully that will help encourage people to post more accessible comics.

When I first opened your link, it looked like modlog (lemmy-ui) was highlighting a post I removed; which is what I was commenting on. When I tried to go back again a second (and third time), it didn’t. It was confusing, and I had to go to bed for work. 😅

That was slightly less than 2 days.

That was due to my updating the post changing the submitted date. In retrospect, I should’ve added timestamps to my updates so it would correlate better.

I would be happy to add your links to the sidebar as a guide for posters. I will do this tonight after work.

You are correct. When I was given mod, there were over 600 reports that needed to be addressed. At the time I removed that post, the rules were not yet changed to allow NSFW content. So I removed it based on the original rules. If you would like to repost it now, you’re more than welcome to do so.

The way I see it, if you as a user like a comic enough to research the artist, and you discover said artist holds values that are offensive to you, then you’ve learned something valuable. Plus, you get to make up your own mind whether you want to continue following said comic/artist. It is a fine line to walk as a mod (or person in power) to dictate what is and isn’t acceptable at any given moment. I learned this the other day when I posted updated rules re-enforcing the original “family friendly” intention. People were quick to point out that we are all adults here and should be given the option of choosing for themselves. And there will always be people who try to take advantage of the rules. I can’t say what will or won’t happen for hypothetical situations that haven’t happened yet, because I honestly do not know how I might respond until it happens. So for now, I am willing to give people leeway and go from there.

This was posted (and reported) before the rule change, and I removed it due to it’s non-“family friendly” nature. There were a couple of other posts that I removed for similar reasons. Now, if you would like to repost it with the appropriate NSFW tag, you’re welcome to do so now that the rules officially support this content.

Hi! As of right now, here is my take on the situation: as long as the comics (and posters posting them) do not break the rules, they are allowed. If we were to ban content based on its creators, there probably would be a lot of content people would miss out on. Take for example Harry Potter. In my personal opinion, the author is a trash person, and I personally will no longer invest my time, effort, or money into their franchise. However, the stories and lore and fan base are still good. There is an actor who had a recurring (and popular) role in Star Trek: TNG (and a few episodes of Voyageur) who turned out to be a trash person. But, the memes and other content being posted about their roles are still funny and entertaining.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I feel that the content is not always a direct reflection of the bad values that their creators/portrayers may have. But, if the community as a whole wants to band together and downvote said content or petition for a new rule that includes a common identifier (i.e., artist name) in the title so it can be keyword filtered by individuals, I would certainly support those efforts. I am definitely not on the side of removing artist credit, even if the artist is not someone I like for whatever reason. They still deserve credit for their work; if anything, so as to ensure other people know who they are and what kind of work they produce.

And if you have other ideas for how we can address these types of situations, please keep them coming.
