I’ve been here, hiked on that exact path. The canyon is gorgeous, the whole thing is windswept such that you can see different eras of erosion on the surface of the rocks. On the main path, you can view dwellings in the distance on slopes that seem impossible to traverse. It’s a beautiful place and a testament to Native American resourcefulness. Pretty close to the Barringer crater too.

I love this idea, but the main obstacle this has to overcome is the voter’s knowledge of the issues and any given candidate stances on them. If we implemented this in the US, I feel like most people would still simply delegate all their votes to one candidate or all candidates of a particular party. It’s a lot of information for a working person to keep track of. Any idea on how to overcome this with paper ballots? Or are computerized ballots with all relevant information embedded within the way to go?
Minecraft. Started playing in 2011 and have played off and on every year since then. It’s now really popular again, but I distinctly remember around 2017-18 it became suddenly uncool to play. Just found this comm today. I call myself a socialist, but I like political discourse and figuring out why people believe the things they do. I have so much respect for people that take the time to think about why they believe the things they do and it’s apparent to me that you do precisely that.
It’s easy for me to agree with every point you’ve made in your post. Relying on your fellow man, justice, diversity, providence, balance, democracy, and border reform I completely agree with. I read your comment about strong institutions over strong government and once again I agree. Generally, a leftist like me should disagree with everything conservatism stands for. So then that begs the question: what makes you call yourself a conservative? If I didn’t know the comm I was in, I’d assume you were a fellow leftist from the opinions in your post alone.
I call myself a socialist because I don’t believe private ownership is productive for society. By private ownership in this context, I don’t mean a man owning his house, I mean a multinational corporation buying up entire neighborhoods. I also think workplace decisions should be made in a democratic fashion. Employees should choose the person to lead them instead of having a boss in place by management that can lord over their employees like a king. Those opinions would make me a socialist.
I guess what I’m asking is what specific opinions do you have that would overall make you lean toward a conservative platform as opposed to a leftist platform? I know it’s not necessarily a binary decision, but you know what I mean.
I’m a pretty conservative game purchaser. I’ve never paid over $40 for a game (including games on sale) because there are so, so many amazing indie games on Steam that charge so little for many hours of fun.
When I see a AAA game come out, I know it’s going to be profit-driven, uninspired, and rushed because it exists solely for the purpose of making money for a large corp. For that reason (among others), I avoid them altogether because I know my dollar goes way further going toward an independent developer who makes games for passion (and only sometimes for money). The passion always shines through in their work, unlike passionless AAA games.
Exactly right. Prompt ““engineering”” is the same as calling the guy at Subway making a sub a “sandwich engineer.” It dilutes the value of jobs where people actually engineer things.
