Mutants are the next stage in human evolution. Canonically they are stronger, faster, tougher, and heal faster than regular humans. It’s not unreasonable to think they age slower and live longer as well.

Mycology@mander.xyz•Saw these last week in Chicago, no idea what they are
4·2 days agoI’ve seen these all over Chicago, usually growing near the roots of a dead tree. I’ve been told in the past they were ink caps of some sort.

9·3 days agoMake the tax directly proportional to the number of unhoused people in the city. It created an incentive for rich people to actually fix the problem.
IIRC, he was created by Vought (the corporation that makes super powered people) to be the perfect justification for them to seize military power in the US.

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.

4·10 days agoAdding insult to injury, because of the pipeline of equipment to the police, we don’t even get cool cheap military surplus like during the Cold War.

12·10 days agoI listen to podcasts while driving using Amazon music. They recently disabled the ability to fast forward over ads using the steering wheel buttons via Android Auto. You can only fast forward now through the full phone app. Someone is going to get in a car accident because of this.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In your opinion, is space exploration necessary?
8·10 days agoIt is a virtual certainty that at some point a meteor large enough to wipe out all multicellular life on the planet will strike the Earth. It is an absolute certainty that the Sun will eventually burn out leaving the planet uninhabitable. Something else might wipe out our species long before either of these things happen, but it’s not a bad idea to have another inhabited planet or two as a backups.

3·10 days ago“The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” is what I always recommend from Heinlein. I feel like this one in particular has stood up conceptually and thematically over time. AI, space colonialism, predatory capitalism, class revolution. It all feels very relevant.
Someone must have had a concrete squirrel sculpture in their yard that this guy mistook for prey.

My favorite one of these unconscious linguistic rules is expletive infixation. We say “fan-fucking-tastic” but “fanta-fucking-stic” sounds completely wrong.
