Had this conversation a while ago with some friends when some rich douchecanoe was trying to start an “enhanced games” where performance enhancers are allowed.

Yes, imho, these should be legalized too. People are gonna use them anyway, just like recreational drugs, and there isn’t a drug on earth that isn’t made safer when it’s users can get pure, known quantities of their substance of choice. It also frees up researches to study the shit that people are absolutely going to put in there bodies anyway. Real science is better than bro science.

to be clear, I’m not saying all sports should now allow performance enhancers, but I think a class for enhanced participants would be hella interesting. Assuming it was backed by legit science and done relatively safely

  • oh god, ye that’s the shitty mobile game. Very unlikely this is what they meant. Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun, Tiberian Twilight are the games you’re looking for probably. More likely the first 2 than Twilight. it wasn’t as well received

ETA: Shit and Tiberian Wars! Always forget that one! Don’t take my nerd card!

  • We got a Peugeot e208. As a car it’s absolutely solid, but the “smart” features can be really unintuituve. Plus I have no idea what data it’s collecting. Too scared to look tbh. But ye, as a car, it’s got good range, is relatively budget friendly, and isn’t the size of a fucking bus. (Seriously, why does it seem like there are no small cars on the market anymore?)

ETA: Oh and in terms of reliability, we’ve had it a year and a half with no issues. We drive it a lot as well, so it’s not like it’s just sitting in a driveway

  • I have a friend who works for Transpower (company in charge of NZ electric grid) and occasionally goes into their control rooms. Apparently they have set ups like this. It gets worse, because there are several computers hooked up to the different monitors, so not only do they have a wall of monitors, they have a bunch of different keyboards and mice (mouses?) that they have to hunt through if they want to actually interact with something

I feel like I’ve been telling myself “surely things are gonna start turning around now” for six years now, and y’know what? They fucking haven’t. There was a meme posted a few days ago that I feel in my soul:

Can I get a fucking ETA on the “this too shall pass” because I’m exhausted.

  • As I’ve said elsewhere, yes in a perfect world it would be on the parents to enforce this, but that doesn’t mean we should do nothing on the social media side. It’s also the parents responsibility to prevent underage drinking and smoking, yet we still restrict those at the point of sale.

I’m for age restrictions on social media, and yes there are arguments against it, but I’m not really interested in having that conversation.

    less invasive alternatives

This is exactly what I take issue with. It’s a false dilemma. The assertion that you can’t have age verification without the invasion of privacy and destroying online anonymity in the process IS FALSE. You CAN have both. THIS is the grift in my opinion.
