Low-Spec Gaming@lemmy.zip•My "spare parts" gaming PC that I put together recentlyEnglish
2·10 hours agoThanks! And thanks for the info. I doubt I’ll need to replace the memory in this, but if I do, I probably have some other DDR3 RAM laying around somewhere.

5·10 hours agoThe case is a Sentey SS1-2422. They still had it listed on their website just a couple months ago, but seem to have removed all PC cases from their site recently. archive.org has a snapshot: https://web.archive.org/web/20260114203216mp_/https://www.sentey.com/en/ss1-2422
The display is supposed to show the temperature and whether the hard drive is spinning. However, it appears to have been kicked several times, so it doesn’t really show anything besides a few cracks now. :P

2·11 hours agoOh wow, Meryl Streep from fairly recently, I’m surprised I hadn’t heard about it. I’ll check it out.

3·2 days agoAnd so many eclipses, too! I’ve always been so confused when I see people from the boomer generation overusing ellipses. I thought no one ever wrote that way before, and it suddenly started on facebook. Maybe it was common in advertising?

7·7 days agoA play called Souvenir, late last year, put on by a local theater company. (Incidentally, their theater is in the building that used to be the gym when I was in college. It looks really nice inside now, and you would never guess that it was the most divey, stanky gym you had ever seen for like 60 years beforehand. I loved that place.)
Anyway, the play was about a famously bad singer who gained fame for how off-pitch she was. It was funny, heartwarming, and very well done. I didn’t know it while watching the play, but she was a real person, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Foster_Jenkins

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any good videos or documentariess on how comic books were made in the analogic age?English
5·7 days agoIf you want something physical to read, Glenn Fleishman (@glennf@zeppelin.flights) wrote a book called How Comics Are Made. https://howcomicsaremade.com/
From the description:
This covers the whole ball of wax of how artists, knowing their newsprint medium, drew their comics and marked drawings up for color reproduction; how printers put that work through the most arcane and impossible-to-believe operations to get them onto paper…
I think it’s mostly focused on comic strips in the newspaper, but I’m guessing the process is mostly the same for comic books.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•League of Legends Faker [Lee 'Faker' Sang-hyeok: won more LoL World Championships] becomes first esports athlete to appear on Korean postage stampsEnglish
9·7 days agoHaha, yeah the title originally made me think that he was known for cheating, and then was being celebrated on a postage stamp anyway for some reason. But I’m guessing most people who follow the game competitively would know the name Faker.

11·7 days agoJust saying “esports competitor” (and then “competitor” thereafter) always sounded like a completely reasonable description to me. Not calling them an athlete, while also not belittling their skill or accomplishments.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•Dee, a new Lemmy client for SailfishOSEnglish
12·7 days agoNice! That definitely matches the Sailfish OS design language. I have an old Sony Xperia phone laying around that should run the latest Sailfish OS, I’ll see about installing it this weekend. I enjoyed Sailfish a few years ago when I was using it as my daily driver.

1·7 days agoI’m always torn about what kinds of features should be put behind a paywall. Like, if it’s just little customizations, that’s much better than saying, “pay us a monthly fee to make more people see your posts.” It seems silly to make UI customization a pro feature, but that also seems like a non-evil way of monetizing a social media app.

It really is. One by one, as my cheapo utensils break, I replace them with GIR.
