I rounded up spare hard drives I’ve got laying around… Turns out there’s a few.
Almost all 4TB for the 3.5", 750GB and 2TB for the 2.5", 256GB and 512GB for the SSDs, 256GB and 512GB for the NVMEs.
Also found a 32GB kit and a few 16GB kits of DDR4, and around 128GB of DDR3.
… And a 16 port HBA card with SAS/SATA combination breakout cables.
Going to use some of that hardware to turn my old work PC (i3-7000 series CPU of some kind) in to an unraid server to replace the current 4000 series powered box.
The current box has 2 x 10TB drives as parity disks, but all the storage drives are only 4TB so I’m going to replace them with 4TB and stick the 10TB in my JBOD (which are all 4TB SAS drives currently except 2xSATA which works out well) for a sneaky extra 12TB of Plex storage.
The rest of the 4TB drives can just be spares for the JBOD. I’m sure the disks will start to fail eventually.

Anyway, yay public holiday!
Disks will start to fail eventually.
Yep, I had a 3TB fail on Saturday. Luckily my setup allowed for it and I didn’t really lose anything except a little time.
