I use it too. My main issue is that when I’m entering tag names on a new article, it doesn’t suggest existing tags. Makes it very difficult to keep the number of tags limited. I might create #environment when #climate is what I would usually use.

We disagree on whether (or where) there is a line between compelling engagement and engineered compulsion/addiction. If you or anyone else is interested in authoritative insights on this, here’s a good starting point: https://www.who.int/news-room/questions-and-answers/item/addictive-behaviours-gaming-disorder

Your comment is a little nonsensical. Again, I think your core issue is confusion over what addiction is and is not. Looking forward to the next TV episode is not addiction either.
Don’t you care about spreading misinformation online?

should we legislate against all of them?
Yes. Gambling, drugs and other predatory practices have regulations and laws around advertising, operation and use. I don’t see why any platform or service should get an exception.

Another conflation you seem to be making is habit formation vs addiction. What you’re describing in your own life does not sound like an addiction.
Addiction (synonymous with substance use disorder), as defined by the DSM-5, entails compulsive use, craving, and impaired control over drug taking in addition to physical dependence. … Physical dependence is much more common than addiction. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(23)00230-4/fulltext

I just added their site (temporarily) to my RSS reader. They only give you the headline and another sentence.

Consider that I know these people very well. Also from experience, they avoid any headaches related to something that potentially runs perpendicular to their stated policies (overseen by HR) of inclusion of people with disabilities, respectful work environment, etc.

It doesn’t matter what I call it. The name is all over the branding, the web domain, documentation, etc. And higher ups - regardless of my own feelings - do have issues with details like those.
It might be different in a startup with people well entrenched in open source, etc., but corporate types are different.

Pity about the name. Even when management or clients have been open to doing things differently, I simply will not risk uttering the name of the software or suggesting we try it out. I think GNU should be respected in the name, but the rest is presumably a joke for immature people. Not a footing I really want to be on when trying to justify something…

The IDF is a rape gang. For many, that’s part of the appeal of joining and remaining.

Jesus f***ing Christ, how depraved are the people who issue those orders, maintain the systems of oppression and take joy in cruelty.

Well, my reading comprehension as also not the best some times so I’m definitely not innocent here. I can take things to literally (and not understand sarcasm). Thanks for clarifying. I hope I didn’t cause offence.

I believe you. My understanding of your post:
Hence my question. That’s all.

My question was genuine. You wrote:
they ask me if I am american? If yes, they won’t even open accounts/ give me insurance etc…

If you’re not American, why are you telling the institutions that you are?

And Israel itself is built, and continues to build on, genocide.

Wow. Seriously well done.

Because the term is loaded. There are technical implications (who will you be federated with and how do I connect with them?), and it’s jurisdictional (which laws apply when I post here?). Also, for non-technical people, you only hear the word “server” in techno-babble word salad from movies. I don’t blame them at all for being confused.
Really enjoyed the first one. Was a bit bored during the second one, although I saw someone I know with a speaking part in it which was a nice surprise.
