Johnathan Wheatley (born May 7, 1967) is a British mechanic who is the Sporting Director for Red Bull Racing.
Wheatley is set to leave Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season and will become the Team Principal at Audi ahead of the 2026 season.
Career
[edit]Wheatley began his motorsport career at Benetton as a junior mechanic in the early 1990s. He then served as the chief mechanic in 2001 until he departed for Red Bull Racing in 2006.
Wheatley's role in the team is important and includes ensuring that the team is operating within the FIA sporting regulations, monitoring communications, and supervising Red Bull's pit crew. Under his supervision Red Bull's pit crew broke the world record for the fastest Formula One pit stop at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix timed at just 1.82 seconds, beating the previous record of 1.88 seconds set during the 2019 German Grand Prix also by Red Bull.
