MIRA discloses list of 146 tax evaders
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has made public, the names of 146 individuals and businesses who have failed to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) liabilities exceeding MVR 600,000.
The list, released in accordance with regulations that allow the naming of tax defaulters, includes non-compliant parties with outstanding tax dues related to taxable periods up to November 2024.
Among those named are a wholesale business and several well known vehicle dealerships operating in the Maldives.
While MIRA did not disclose the exact amount owed by each entity, the authority stated that the decision to publish the list came after multiple reminders, notices, and deadline extensions were issued.
In line with policy, MIRA offers various concessions to facilitate compliance, including installment payment agreements for those unable to settle dues in a lump sum.
However, MIRA highlighted that tax concessions will increase the total amount in tax payments.
MIRA assured that enforcement actions would not be pursued against those who enter into such agreements.
