Commuter Students

The Students’ Union supports students who live at home while studying and commute to university.

If one or more of these sound like you, we count you as a commuter:

  • You did not move away from home to attend university (e.g. you still live with the people that raised you, with a partner, or with non-students)
  • You have different term time & non-term-time addresses
  • You travel a long way (at least 45 minutes) to get to university
  • You use multiple modes of transport to commute to university

All of this, plus any additional responsibilities you might have such as caring for a family member or working whilst studying, could make your experience more challenging.

That’s why we work to make sure student life meets your needs.

What your Students' Union can offer you as a commuter

  • Community with other commuters through the Commuters Society
  • Financial support to access extracurricular activities through our Access to Recreation grant
  • Access to lockers in the SU building
  • Commuter-friendly* SU events designed in partnership with commuter students

*These events aim to have a flexible/drop-in format, offer remote attendance options, have easy access to public transport/parking, and avoid rush hours.
