A slew of new projects based on Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” fantasy novels are in the works from IP owner iwot Studios and “Arcane”

I don’t think so. Animated wasn’t the only way to make a good adaptation of Lord of the rings, it wasn’t the only way to make a good adaptation of Narnia, it wasn’t the only way to make a good adaptation of game of thrones. Of the problems with the wheel of time series that did get made, the visuals weren’t one of them.

Dude are you kidding? The visuals weren’t a problem? From episode 1, the Trollocs looked like cheap CGI. The character costumes were absurd, never had a speck of dust on them and looked like they came straight off a Nordstrom’s rack. The disappointing visuals were a big part of why I dropped the show about 6 episodes in.

I’m not saying the visuals were world class, but they were good enough, and a lot of what you say about the clothes is a matter of art direction, not limits on what can be done. The show could have been good if it had better people working on it.

My point is that it was not impossible to do well because it wasn’t animated.

You know what, that’s fair. The visuals in the Amazon show were a mess, but that was more about the incompetence of the visual affects director and not about what would have been technically possible. And the writing and acting were really the fatal flaw of that show.
