about

This piece was initially inspired by the sound design of ‘Microcosmos: Le Peuple de l'herbe’ (1996), which turns insects' twitchy activity into Shakespearean drama. Amidst the grass in the moonlight, that documentary captures skittering armies laid to waste, horned kings overthrown by their subjects, the thunderous footsteps of avian gods, and a rhapsody of snail lust. In a similar spirit, we wanted to create dynamic music using instruments as characters and an unpredictable structure to mirror the impermanence of the microcosmos. The result is built from multi-tracked vocals, guitars, field recordings, and pitched percussion.
