Although the possibility of massive earthquakes of magnitude 8 or stronger striking is higher than usual, the odds are around 1%, or 10 times higher compared with 0.1% in regular times, the JMA said.

Maybe I’m wrong and these submarines or MANPADS or planes could actually make a difference in a conflict, idk. But dollar for dollar, i can’t imagine it does better than a larger number of armed and trained light infantry among the populace. Especially given all we’re learning about cheap drones from Ukraine and Iran.

You are very wrong about this.

Don’t they agree on most things? Of course Merz must hate Trump for being loud and sloppy but aren’t their politics and policy goals entirely compatible?

Thank you for telling us about your methods, Blender is amazing.

It was so weird being raised in the US where India was/is exoticized as some far off unique flavor of humanity that is just one country among a far east of peculiar deviations from mainstream (read: european) history.

In reality Indian history is a good chunk of human history….. The current population is what 1/7th of earth?… and India’s history stretches back very deep into human history.

I wish Indian stuff was portrayed in US culture more along the lines of “look at this other thing one of humanities oldest and largest cultures figured out before the rest of us did!”. Not in a way that fetishes it, rather the opposite, introduce the basic logical point that India can’t be ignored as a part of human history, too much of our story as humans has happened there and is happening there.

Same thing with China, though I feel like China’s immensity of population is more often portrayed negatively in the US and thus this is less of a subversive point. However when it comes to history there is the same exact weird denial of Chinese history as there is Indian history in the US, whatever you think of the present day places they are major parts of the story of the human race. US culture focuses on Western European history like it is the main course and by the numbers it just isn’t.

I dunno, I guess I say that all to make that point that I love Indian food, especially how good vegetarian and vegan Indian food often is, and I would argue that actually Indian food being awesome makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Indians have been perfecting the art of cooking for a long time with a massive diversity of styles.

Sorry I agree I really dislike the title, it doesn’t do the article justice at all.

…and people look at cults and have the temerity to look at Cults and exclaim “How could people ever fall into a crazy situation like that?”.

Lol the name is absurd, you are gonna tell me this is a straight boi?

I know this is morbid and not the point, but for the assholes I would really like to know how much money this pre-emptive care saves everybody in the end.

Obviously every life lost is tragic and every life burdened needlessly with severe disability is a cause for existential rage, but think about the costs involved simply with establishing the proper insurance to employ doctors in an emergency room context with approved machines and facilities to help care for the kids that get sick because they didn’t get the pre-emptive care in time?

I don’t emphasize this point to dehumanize the victims or to suggest their humanity is not enough of a reason, rather I emphasize this to attack the central thesis at the heart of austerity politics which is that we cannot afford to help people. The opposite is true. We cannot afford to neglect helping other people.

Surely the real problem is that we haven’t imposed an authoritarian system to exclude kids from the internet!

Louisiana is both a picture into all of our futures and one of the most egregious accelerators of our path into it as a planet.

I have seen no indications anyone can limit Trump or his handlers that want escalation to simplify their jobs and fulfill their twisted beliefs.
