about

From the fertile crosscurrents of Amsterdam’s ever-evolving underground music scene emerges Naga Kirana - an Indo synth-folk-pop collective, drawing on Indonesian musical lineages while exploring electronic and synthesizer-based forms and propulsive grooves. Their double-sided digital single, Lumba2 / Ngajuh Hudjan, arrives as the first glimpse of an upcoming full-length album.

Naga Kirana has developed out of ongoing conversations between musicians with Indonesian and Dutch backgrounds, drawing on personal histories, musical archives, contemporary collaborations and shared curiosity.

A key voice within Naga Kirana is vocalist Inda Duran, who collaborates with Indonesian writers Adinda Adwimasari and Petani Hati, deepening her relationship with the language while developing lyrics for the band's music.

Surrounding her is a cast of musicians drawn from some of the Netherlands’ most forward-thinking groups: Rouzy Portier (Nusantara Beat) on bass guitar, Marnix Wilmink (Mauskovic Dance Band) on synthesizers and electronic percussion, Jasper Verhulst (Altın Gün) on synthesizers and electronic drums, and Kees Schaper on electronic drums.

Inda tells us: "Naga Kirana invites me to listen to many music scenes. Through playing together, those influences find their way into the music. I love spending time like that."

The "A-side" track Lumba2 (“Dolphins” in Indonesian), glides atop repetitive gamelan melodies and hypnotizing rhythms. Beneath its playful surface lies a meditation on appearances and emotional ambiguity - a reminder that joy can conceal hidden depths.

On the "flip side," Ngajuh Hudjan reimagines a traditional Sundanese folk song while preserving its lyrical themes of gratitude for rainfall. Translating roughly as “rain coming down,” the song celebrates rain’s ability to cool the earth, nourish plants, and summon rainbows. Naga Kirana recasts the piece as a gentle electronic ritual: reverent, hypnotic, and quietly euphoric.

With Lumba2 / Ngajuh Hudjan, Naga Kirana opens a compelling space where Indonesian musical traditions, electronic experimentation and Amsterdam's underground scene intersect. A meeting of personal histories and living musical cultures that continue to shape one another.
