sparkly
I painted this bright 'sparkly' model at last week's portrait session. Her hair was so cool, and fun to paint. Again, not sure why but, I love this long thin board size for faces. It gives everyone a kind of graceful long look. ; )

music dude
8x10" original oil painting on a 1" deep wooden cradled panel
I am very happy with the likeness I captured of this model, who is a real music buff, hence the title. ; )
It's a new challenge for me to block-in a painting with shapes, as opposed to lines, as I have done with watercolour for years.
I cropped the model's head out of the shot for his own privacy... although you can see what he looks like from my painting! Haha...

After a 3 hour session, I was pretty happy with the painting. Just a little touch up back in studio (hence the different easel). I only spent about a half hour on it to keep the freshness of the life session.

through and through
5x7" original oil painting
Viridain Green paint is always a pleasure to use because it's a very relaxed pigment. It's not that strong a colour and it's got a cool temperature. I used it for the lighting on the side of the model's face. I really enjoyed warming up this painting with lots of oranges and reds for contrast. : )

tortoise shell glasses and a grey cat
$100 - 8x10"original watercolour painting
I love the way this portrait, or should I say portraits, asks the viewer to move their eyes back and forth from the woman to the cat, to the woman, to the cat, to the woman... well you get the idea. ; )

the last short pose
$60 - 5x7" original watercolour painting with 8x10"mat
It's tricky not to get carried away with a portrait when doing a figure study. I concentrate on the shapes of the face, and not details. That way, the whole piece balances. I think I still caught a subtle expression on her face within the loose style. ; )

to long friendships
$100 - 8x10" original watercolour painting
These flowers fell together like an old bunch of friends.
I love the little brown cup, which I've had it for some time and painted before. I'd forgotten about it and, stumbling across it this morning, I though small pink flowers would look cute in it.

I love the solemn thoughtful look in this portrait. This piece is a fellow artist who I painted in our Artist Posing for Each Other Painting Class. : )

I woke up bright and early this morning and painted these little guys in the morning sun. I tried to keep it simple. Meanwhile, still practising painting mountains in preparation for my trip. One more week!

I'm loving these new artist pens. They are water soluble, so anything goes once I add a splash of water and some watercolour paint!

pages of people
I spent the day teaching the wonderful Mississauga Art Group. They lost their fear of putting people into paintings after we did pages of them! Each drawing is the size of a silver dollar.
