I used to know a guy in the UK Conservative Party (nice guy actually) and he told me that there was an expectation of them to maintain good relations with the US Republican Party, even though they had far more in common with the Democrats.

Wait and see. He’s centre-right and used to be in the same party.

Do American men not look after their kids?

No point getting upset about this, it’s inevitable. So many FOSS programmers work thanklessly for hours and now there’s some tool to take loads of that work away, of course they’re going to use it. I know loads of people complain about it but used responsibly it can take care of so much of the mundane work. I used to spend 10% of my time writing code then 90% debugging it. If I do that 10% then give it to Claude to go over I find it just works.

if it was as bad as she was making it out to be I’d be pretty pissed off too. It’s probably not though. Loud music very occasionally is okay but I’d expect it to be turned off around 10/11 unless it was a very special occasion and I’d been warned in advance (and invited). I doubt the smell of weed is that bad. They shouldn’t be handing out alcohol.

I wouldn’t take them in the plane, that sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Can you share where you’re going? You will need to look into how customs works. If they’re over a certain value they might need to be declared and it might not matter how much you paid for them but rather how much they’d be judged to be worth in the country you’re travelling to.

I lived in a third world country for a while where some things you couldn’t get locally were really expensive, even if they were cheap at home. I imported some costume jewellery which I paid £23 for and the locals wanted me to pay £100 for it to be valued and I was told it would likely be valued around £200 so I’d have to pay import tax at around £80. I just let it get destroyed as it wasn’t worth the cost or hassle.

It took a few weeks for me. You may just need to slow your pace. I do it more by distance than by speed.

What’s that web interface thing? Is it home made? I keep thinking about doing something like that to save me having to remember port numbers for the different services on my home server.

Why are these companies wanting to pay to infuriate me? If I want to watch something and I’m suddenly interrupted by a 90 second unskippable intrusion I’m not going to have a positive relationship with your company.

All the oil and gas in Morocco is owned by the state. Morocco is big on solar, being one of the sunniest countries in the world, but Shell don’t have a hand in that. There’s phosphor in the south but the big international companies aren’t allowed to touch that as it’s occupied territory according to the UN.

This must just be showing only companies owned by foreigners. I know in Morocco they have way more petrol stations than just Shell. All the service stations on the major roads are owned by the mayor of Tangier.

Starmer said yesterday that the UK is pivoting away from the US to concentrate more on EU relations.

I was getting all wound up but then I noticed the article is from yesterday.

If companies want to use this stuff they should have to clearly label it, like how restaurants have to clearly show their hygiene ratings. You shouldn’t have to google everything

I honestly think this is an April Fools. I recall the Russians have a sort of darkly twisted take on it.

There were a lot of absolutely awful ones when I was kid, so many I just forget them all. Back then we had a ZX Spectrum and the games cost like £2.99 each so you can imagine how much effort was put into them. I understand why the studios keep cranking out crappy movie tie-ins and why they keep selling well, because when I was a kid if there was a movie I loved I’d jump at the chance to buy the video game for it. Back then there was no internet to instantly check reviews so you just bought whatever had good box art.

I remember the Jaws game being particularly depressing. It was one of those classic games where it just drops you in an environment with no instructions on how to complete the game or anything. It was just a maze with loads of moving things that instantly killed you. I generally just moved around until I ran out of lives then tried again.

Self-hosted services are only serving their purpose, they’re not serving ads, crunching user data, training unwanted AI algorithms…

I don’t use them myself but Debian or Ubuntu are probably what you’re looking for.

Actually blocking VPNs is pretty tough. Almost all internet traffic is encrypted now and any of that can be a tunnel.
