I still say he could never win. No one in their right mind would vote for him. Any party that nominated him can only blame themselves for losing. But of course I voted. Always vote.
And he’s been even worse than the unelectable fooli thought he was, so WTF, people. But always vote
Nice. I have those “souvlaki in a pita” ingredients waiting in my fridge but have been putting that off all week
I miss this - when my kids were at home I was always so motivated to do a good job, to find and make new things, to spend extra tine. Cooking was interesting.
Now it’s just me at home and it’s really not a motivation anymore
Horrible article and worse headline, that trivializes a serious issue.
- There is no “insolvent”. There really isn’t even the concept
- There is a serious increase in debt that we ought to do something about (like by cutting the recent tax breaks for wealthy)
- Social security and Medicare are underfunded, but it’s stupid to add a “75 year liability” to the current year and complain about how big it is. It’s like 80% funded by tax revenue over that 75 years and certainly not due this year
That may be true and is certainly a well known concern …. Yet given the US government’s recent history, I have a hard time believing much of what they say
Cheap Chinese routers as a risk being true doesn’t prevent it from also being true that the current us administration is full of shit and likely more concerned about enriching someone connected to them, or tilt at windmills
And yet your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. If English is your second language, I’m sorry some meaning was lost
Bs. Feel free to be as judgmental as you want, to jump at false scares, to reduce grey issues to black and white, to be unable to distinguish differences in degree
Not at all. I’m a sheltered white dude, oblivious in my security. But it’s important to point out that ignorance is a thing: we should know better but didn’t always.
Using offensive/insulting terms ignorantly may be wrong but it’s not the same as intentionally
All true, but where are the headlines of Chinese companies setting up second and third shifts to crank out as many as possible solar panels and EVs to take advantage of this? Good for their profits == good for our environment
That’s a really dangerous thought. Certainly no nation should have nukes, but increasing the number who have them just makes it more likely they’ll be used. Civilizational survival is more important than fairness here.
We survived the Cold War because of “Mutually Assured Destruction” and no one in their right mind would let this happen. But it came down to one person disobeying an order at least once. It would be insane to trust the survival of civilization on this assumption
It would be “mad” to multiply the number of ways we can destroy ourselves and believe MAD will save us
It’s exactly analogous to someone using the n word because that was common usage at the time time, compared to using it now when all the negative associations are clear and (most) usage is not acceptable. Not the same at all
I mean the point is there’s a convenience factor where you might have twice as many ports as you’re willing to use
It’s not just that you might have more devices or want to leave them plugged in, but you may find some ports undesirable to use
No one could see the ozone hole. We had to believe science and everyone did.
meanwhile climate change is not just easier to understand, but becoming apparent in everyday life. There’s been an overwhelming consensus in science for half a century. How do people still doubt? Or what kind of hatred could make you actively resist changes to mitigate it?
Yeah, Lemmy was always so pessimistic about the future, but everything was looking up. Lots of reasons for hope that tomorrow would be better than yesterday, my kids would inherit a better world and make it even better.
Then it all fell apart. The scary thing is not how ugly, immoral, hate filled, corrupt it is, but how quickly and easily it fell apart yet still has people supporting it
smear the queer
I doubt. Maybe I can’t generalize from my own ignorance, but we had no idea what this was referring to. It was no different than “kill the guy with the ball”, but my mom didn’t like us talking about killing our friends and brothers
In my state, cafeteria food is free. There are no longer any pay choices so you either take the free food or bring your own
I won’t claim it’s good food, but it looks much better than the garbage I had when I was in school
My kids gaming pc tower has a set of usb ports on the back and a set on the front. It’s great to have options, but he’s not going to use them all. Ie he has ten usb ports for the five he uses
Never got my money back - the lawyer fees would have been high and I went in assuming it was a gamble - most likely I’d lose it all with a small chance of a huge win
But that place was a real toxic workplace that I’m glad I left. The other fun thing was the reason I got laid off: not a team player. They asked me to be the first one in so I could do their management so I said ok. Then they asked me to stay last and I said “sure, which do you want. This was a typical startup where everyone works insane hours so there’s really no way anyone could be both first in and last out, but they thought that was not being a team player
I’m actually stocking up on popcorn to watch the price of gas over the next decade as most of the world transitions to EVs
The thing is, as companies adjust to changing demand, supply will be out of balance. We’re in for a wild ride as price stability is the first thing to go.
Will people still not see it as it happens? They’ll see the low prices and buy ever larger trucks, then another refinery closes and prices will be high. Surprise!
Stock options. I was working in a startup and got hit with the downsizing axe. Luckily, I thought, I had had been there just long enough to vest in the options. So I bought them on my way out the door, spent like $100 on 200,000 options: they were worthless at the time but if the company ever did go public that small investment would quickly turn into a fortune. Lucky.
Two weeks later I got the legal notice that they reissued options so all non-founder options were cancelled.
