I also think it is deplorable that we have not held India to account for the killing of a Canadian citizen (my choice of words, you said Sikh)
I suspect this is another covertly funded de-stabilization campaign, in the same vein as the Alberta “separatists” - who are either paid shills, morons or assholes (but all traitors)
In India itself, this movement barely registers

once civil society and the rule of law diminishes to a certain violent bottom, arming oneself not only makes sense, but becomes a survival imperative
I know that if I lived in the US, I would be armed and proficient in its use
