Options
The "Options" menu allows you to toggle the following:
- Photo-Sensitive Mode
- Flashing effects, e.g., when you enter or exit Pac-Man or Rat-Race power-ups are disabled
- Solid Radar Background
- By default, the radar shows the game screen behind. This option makes the radar black for better visibility
- Large Player Radar Icon
- Having trouble seeing where you are on the radar? Turn this option on and your radar icon appears double-size
- Background Music
- Allows you to turn off the background music but still hear sound effects and jingles
Special Modes
From the main menu, you can use left and right to select the "Special Mode " which is shown in yellow above the menu. This affects ALL game modes, including Map Packs:
- Regular Play
- Mirrored Play
- All maps are mirrored vertically
- Random Mirrored Play
- Maps will be mirrored randomly including horizontally and/or vertical ly. Or no mirroring at all!
Game Modes
Radar Rally
Plays similar to New Rally-X but with power-ups.
Rally-X
Harder courses like the original Rally-X but with overbridges to mix things up a bit.
Rat Race
Played Radar Rat Race on the Commodore 64 or VIC 20? This may look familiar.
Painter
Paint the entire track, avoiding chasers or destroying them using purple "zip" flags.
Remember to clean up the tyre marks if chasers spin out!
Practice
Practice any course, including Painter courses.
Bomber
The tables have turned. Chase down the green cars and explode them before all yellow flags are collected, otherwise it's game over!
GPC
A random selection of 4 special maps created by the Gentlemen's Pixel Club (possibly the game's no. 1 fan in the entire world!)
Timed
Select your course of choice. You have 2 minutes to amass the highest score possible.
Timed+
Played like Timed mode but on a huge GPC course and with the ability to extend the 2 minutes.
Map Editor
Create your own courses.
Pick your own colour palette and styles.
Choose power-ups.
And much, much more...
Map Packs
Combine maps you've created in the Map Editor and share them with other players.
NOTE: As at release, there is no "simple" way to share Map Packs. They are stored in a radarrally/packs folder. Here's how to access it to copy files in Windows:
- Open Windows Exporer
- In the address bar, type %AppData% and press enter
- Navigate to the following folder:
Picotron\exp\shared\drive\appdata\radarrally\packs - You can copy map packs (.rrmp files) to and from this folder
Create a Map Pack
Select the maps to include on the Level Editor selection screen.
Create a Map Pack. You can opt to have the courses played in a random order as well as other settings.
Share a Map Pack
Copy .rrmp files into radarRally/packs folder and they'll appear on the Map Packs screen.
Background
Although I was vaguely familiar with Rally-X, and had played Radar Rat Race on the Commodore 64, it's only when Gentlemen's Pixel Club (GPC) suggested I create a game based on this (an obsession of theirs as you'll see if you visit the YouTube channel in the link) that I truly came to appreciate the game.
The algorithm is much, much simpler than Pac-Man which means the chasers follow very predictable behaviour. This makes this more a game of strategy. Something I never appreciated before coding this version.
Many ideas are taken from Rally-X, New Rally-X (Namco's concession to the original being a little too hard for most players) and other classic arcade games such as Crush Roller and Pac-Man. Other game modes such as Bomber and Timed were suggested by GC and are great additions.
Thanks
- A massive thanks to Gentlemen's Pixel Club for testing, course design, feedback , and much, much more
- Rebecca for non-gamer feedback which was invaluable (large player icon in the radar is my favourite)
- Lexaloffle for Picotron

Nice update.
Merry Xmas to all - delighted to be able to share this festive video of this game. Many thanks to Paul for all the work he puts into these releases.
Nobara OS Linux. Works on the Heroic Games Launcher. https://heroicgameslauncher.com/
Excellent. Thanks for letting me know.
As a huge fan of the concept of Rally X, after being involved with this - and again thank you to Paul - Rally X, New Rally-X seem well less feature rich then you can ever imagine !
Paul has created something wonderful here and its simply brilliant, it really is...
I gave $2 extra. Should work on Linux Wine. :)
thank you. If it doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll look at doing a Linux build if possible.
it's amazing! Congratulations!!
