How awful another refinery has had to shut down? 😔
AFAIK oil and pollution are very much a part of war.
It would be interesting to see if one cancels the other out, because the US army is the most polluting institution on the planet.
Pretty weird if the war in Ukraine was somehow not a root cause of most things occurring in the country at the moment.
Also… If I’m fighting for my life, somebody better not criticise me for farting or ill get irritated. Of course the are emissions, they’re fighting to survive. Goddamn.
Yeah sorry, the way I interpreted it is that the war is ukraines largest source of co2, which makes sense, war is a dirty business but thanks to the hits on Russias infra it may actually make up for it
Ukrainian forces have carried out more than 160 precision strikes on oil refineries and energy facilities deep inside Russia in 2025, reducing the country’s oil production by up to 90% and causing a fuel shortage of over 20%, according to Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) chief Vasyl Malyuk.

BBC Verify counts 21 Russian oil refineries hit since January — already 48% more than in all 2024
I’d take it with a grain of salt but according to my local quant this means:
Total: The attacks have likely reduced Russia’s CO₂ emissions by 267–534 million tons per year as of late 2025, compared to pre-war levels.
Not bad
Cool stuff, yeah. I love the euphemism of “kinetic sanctions”.
