I have secure boot enabled in the bios, if that’s what your asking. I pretty much exclusively use Linux with secure boot enabled. The only time I’ve ever disabled it was to try and get Virtual Box working in Linux Mint but it stops working as soon as I re-enable secure boot, so I don’t use Virtual Box.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a band or musician that you found out too late that they were actually really awesome?
2·11 days agoI somewhat recently found out about an artist called Foreground Eclipse. According to the Touhou Wiki, they disbanded in 2013 and they were considered a screamo and post-hardcore metal band but because of the singers voice, they might fall under “kawaii metal” (cute metal). A good example of their music would be In A Night When Her Sorrow Resounds Around.

2·12 days agoCan you run games manually or does this app only allow you to run games it can download? I haven’t tried it yet, it seems cool but from what I’ve read, it’s just a modified version of Winlator (or it at least uses Winlator to some extent). So if it’s limited to just the games from specific sources, I’m not seeing a reason for me to try it yet.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you respond to "hey, how are you" when you feel like garbage?
2·13 days agoFor most people, I’ll just tell them I could be better and then just give vague answers if they try to ask why. I don’t have problems telling my feelings to people, I just don’t because I don’t like venting my issues on people I don’t fully trust or feel close to.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many browser bookmarks do you have? Do you use most of them?
2·13 days agoAcross all platforms and browser instances, I have about 40 to 50 in total (I don’t feel like actually counting them) and I think I use more than half of them every day. The rest are things I either use occasionally or that I want to use eventually but currently don’t or can’t.

5·23 days agoI’m a little confused about this. While I’ve been using RSS feeds for several years, my only experience with RSS feeds is with Inoreader. Will this cause issues with the way that I’ve been using RSS feeds or will I be unaffected?

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft announces sweeping Windows changes - but no apologiesEnglish
35·1 month agoHere’s the thing, I don’t want Microslop to apologize. Apologies don’t mean shit from major corporations unless actual change happens. It’s appalling just how bad Windows is compared to Linux, despite the fact that Linux is free and Windows is a “premium” OS. There are so many things, both big and small, that Linux does better than Windows. Microslop is currently worth almost 3 trillion dollars, they have no excuse.
In fact, something that I saw some time ago, was a video of Tiny 11 being booted into with just 184MB of ram. It didn’t run that well, as it was pretty much unusable for multiple reasons, but this proves that Microslop has plenty of room for improvements in Windows to match Linux in terms of performance.

Technology@lemmy.world•This is Android's new 'advanced flow' for sideloading apps without verification, includes one-day waiting periodEnglish
9·1 month agoWhile I understand that Google probably hasn’t provided the answers yet, I have two questions about this. First, will I need to setup a pin for my devices? I don’t normally use any form of a lock screen on my devices and I’d prefer to continue not having them but I know from personal experience that some android devices don’t allow you to remove the lock screens after you set them up.
Second, during the 24 hour waiting period, is the device still usable? I know this might sound like a stupid question but Google’s vague wording has me wondering.

Games@lemmy.world•Lutris now being built with Claude AI, developer decides to hide it after backlashEnglish
61·1 month agoIn this particular case, I think the use of AI is tolerable. But as someone who uses Lutris sometimes, I do have concerns about whether or not this will cause issues with running games through it. How do we know if the AI generated code is going to make Lutris slow or possibly cause games to not work properly that otherwise would have worked perfectly fine?
Whenever I’ve tried running games in both Wine by itself and Lutris, I have noticed that they do often run noticeably slower in Lutris. And I also don’t have the best PC to begin with, so this is a big concern of mine.
I mainly use Firefox as it’s the best non-chromium browser I’m aware of for both Linux and android. But I also have Vivaldi installed on Linux for the rare cases where something doesn’t work in Firefox, Waterfox on some of my older android devices because Firefox no longer supports the versions of android they run, and I also have F-Droid’s Fennec on one of my phones because it used to be my primary browser on android and I just never got around to switching to Firefox on that phone.
For anyone wondering why I stopped using F-Droid’s Fennec, it’s just because at some point (possibly a few years ago) they announced that their browser was outdated and missing several security features from Firefox. It’s possible that the browser is fully updated now, as it does seem to be receiving updates regularly, but I currently have no reason to switch back to using it as my primary browser on android. Now, if they were to revert the UI back to previous one, I’d have a reason to use it again. I really don’t care for the UI both Firefox and Fennec have currently on android.
As much as I hate Microslop, I’ve been primarily using Bing because of the whole rewards thing they have. Although, I obviously wouldn’t recommend using it and instead would recommend DuckDuckGo, Ecosia or OceanHero.
For those who haven’t heard of OceanHero, their goal is somewhat similar to Ecosia but they work towards cleaning the Ocean.

Technology@lemmy.world•Western Digital Has No More HDD Capacity Left, as CEO Reveals Massive AI Deals; Brace Yourself For Price Surges Ahead!English
3·2 months agoYou know what’s crazy about this AI bullshit. I’ve been wanting to buy a micro SD card for my tablet but the hard drive shortage has caused the price of micro SD cards to double in the past few months, so I might not be able to anytime soon. The only one that’s reasonably priced is from Silicon Power, which is a brand that I’ve never even heard of before.

25·2 months agoI was wondering why I couldn’t see descriptions and comments on seemingly random videos for the past two days. Also, it’s weird because I use Ublock Origin on Firefox and it’s rare that these changes actually effect Ublock Origin. It seems like it may be fixed now though, but I haven’t been actively checking.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's some "Human Music" that you enjoy? [context in body]
3·3 months agoI sometimes listen to chiptune and some other similar genres. On top of some of the more well known stuff like the original Touhou Games and retro games like Silver Surfer, something more obscure is pre-Touhou IOSYS, not all of it’s chiptune but it’s close enough to what was asked for. I feel like I’m forgetting some others but all I can think of is more retro games that everyone has probably already heard of.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•For potential future reference, if I were to use Tiny 10/11 on an old computer, would I be able to easily install GPU drivers?
1·3 months agoOkay thank, I wasn’t sure if Microsoft or the GPU manufacturers would block Tiny10/11 users from installing their drivers since Microsoft blocks them from receiving Windows system/security updates.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•For potential future reference, if I were to use Tiny 10/11 on an old computer, would I be able to easily install GPU drivers?
2·3 months agoThat’s not what I’m asking about. I already have a dual boot between Linux Mint and WIndows 10 and I’ve had it Linux Mint installed for over a year on this computer.
What I’m asking about is whether I’d be able to use Tiny10/11 to replace Windows 10 if I were to remove. I want to run games from within Linux on the SSD but I’d need to remove Windows 10 in order to use it because I’d need to reform the SSD in order for games to run properly.

Games@lemmy.world•Modern games with Abuse-like controls scheme?English
2·3 months agoI know of some flash/browser games if you’re okay with them and know how to safely play them but otherwise, I know I’ve definitely played a lot of games like this but I’m struggling to remember them.
I haven’t played the steam version yet but I know that The Last Stand: Union City is pretty good. It was released on Steam in the Legacy Collection It plays almost like a 2D version of Fallout 3/NV but in a modern setting. I’ve personally been looking for more games like this but I have yet to find any.
I know it might not be what you are looking for but I know that Terraria plays like this. It starts with melee weapons but you can get ranged weapons and there is a lot of them.
If you are okay with top-down shooters, I’m also aware of a game called Empty Clip.
I’m also aware of some adult games but I don’t know if I can post those here.

This doesn’t apply to a specific franchise, but I sometimes think about how fun it would be for game franchises with a lot of characters to have games designed around replaying them with the different characters. Some examples would be:
A game with every Final Fantasy character that plays like Vampire Survivors. Each character would have their own sets of equipment and attacks they can obtain.
A game that is basically Sonic and the Black Knight be re-imagined to be more like either Monster Hunter or Kingdom Hearts. Each character could either have their own sets of equipment or have access to most of the equipment but use them differently.
A Touhou game that’s some form of an RPG, whether it be turn-based, action, or something similar to FF12. I know that there already are some RPGs featuring these characters but (on top of mostly being adult games for some reason) they all only have a few of the characters and they are very short and the RPG elements are usually quite limited.
Also, not really a specific franchise and it’s technically the same genre but I’d like to see more fighting games play like Dissidia Final Fantasy. I want to play more fighting games but Dissidia is the one of the only fighting games that I’ve ever been good at.
