Warnings

StarForce DRM may not work on modern versions of Windows (see Availability for affected releases).

Space Channel 5: Part 2 is a singleplayer and multiplayer cinematic camera music/rhythm game in the Space Channel 5 series.

On November 6, 2024, it was announced that Space Channel 5 would be delisted from Steam on December 6, 2024.[2] The game was delisted three days later on December 9, 2024.[3]

Some of the Japanese voices are used even when the game is set to English; e.g. Purge's laugh in Stage 4.

Anti-aliasing (AA)
FXAA on/off for the Steam version. See Anti-aliasing (AA).
Vertical sync (Vsync)
Always enabled.
Vsync can cause the timing to go slightly "off" occasionally, making the game harder. Using Fast Sync in Nvidia Control Panel seems to fix the problem.
60 FPS and 120+ FPS
Frame rate is capped at half the refresh rate (e.g. 30 FPS on a 60 Hz monitor). 60 FPS requires a 120 Hz monitor. Playing the game above 60 Hz will cause the game to play too fast and mess up timings (as above, Fast Sync may improve things). Ulala's Dance mode will play fine above 30 FPS.
Game speed is bound to frame rate but allows going over 60 FPS.
Cap the frame rate to 60 FPS.
High dynamic range display (HDR)
See the glossary page for potential alternatives.
Color blind mode

Change registery value[11]
  1. Open preferred text editor.
  2. Copy and paste following.
    For 32-bit OS:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SEGA]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SEGA\Space Channel 5 Part 2]
    "Space Channel 5 Part 2"="1"
    For 64-bit OS:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SEGA]

    "Space Channel 5 Part 2"="1"
  3. Save the file as SC5.reg
  4. Open the file and confirm you want to continue
Alternatively you may manually change those values to registry

Audio is in Japanese even though English was selected

Change the voice over language[12]
  1. Open the configurator and select Japanese for the voice over under the audio tab.
  2. Launch the game and close it.
  3. Open the configurator and then select English for the voice over.

Game plays too fast or too slow

Change your monitor's refresh rate to 60 Hz[13]
  1. Go to the "Display" Control Panel.
  2. Press "Change display settings" tab, then press "Advanced settings".
  3. Go to the "Monitor" tab, select "60 Hertz" for "Screen refresh rate:" under "Monitor Settings".

Notes

Exact steps vary slightly depending on your Windows version. The above is for Windows 7.

Game won't save data

Delete the save game data folder and then uninstall and reinstall the game[14]
If the save game data folder does not exist, create it and the game will save.[15]

Japanese audio plays in Report 4 when game is set to English

Move r42music.afs and r34music.afs from afs_english to the main folder[16]

Characters fall silent when controller buttons or keys are mentioned

Replace r01voice_ps3.afs r11voice_ps3.afs r52voice_ps3.afs in afs_english folder with download https://www.dropbox.com/s/1gcoop8kwg4njeb/SC5_PSBMod.zip[17]
Restores PS2 dialogue pertaining to buttons[18]

Notes

  1. Version 5.70 of StarForce DRM requries KB2930157 to be installed on Windows 8.1 to function properly. This version may also need a manual driver update on Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11 to function properly.[4][5] The driver can be updated using the included PCNSL.exe/PROTECT.exe tool.
