Urban Chaos is a singleplayer third-person open world action game made by Mucky Foot Productions and published by Eidos Interactive.

Originally redistributed digitally by Square Enix, Urban Chaos rights have been reacquired by My Little Planet, a company founded by Mucky Foot co-founder Guy Simmons[1].

In May 2017, Mucky Foot developer Mike Diskett released the source code.

Issues unresolved

Objects become invisible

Certain objects like car tires can sometimes become invisible without any reason for doing so.

Game crashes when view distance is set too high

When draw_distance in the <path-to-game>\config.cfg is set to 50 or higher, the game will crash during the gameplay.[6]

Issues fixed

Visual artifacts during gameplay

Alt+Tab to another window and back[citation needed]
If using a GeForce card, disable Fast VSync[citation needed]

Game crashes when restarting a mission

Set Windows compatibility mode to "Windows 95"[7]

Texture resolution is too low

The game halves the texture resolution if it detects the graphics card having less than 5 MB of video memory. Since most of the modern systems have more than 2 GB of video memory, the check fails due to the fact that game's code uses a signed 32-bit value for it, forcing low resolution textures.
Hex edit the game executable[8]
  1. Go into the <path-to-game>.
  2. Open fallen.exe with a hex editor (eg. HxD).
  3. Move to the 821835 (0xC8A4B) hex offset.
  4. Look for 00 80 CC 40 89 45 00 (hex value).
  5. Replace 40 in that value with 00.
  6. Save the file.

Notes

This fix works for both the Steam and GOG.com versions.
Use dgVoodoo2[9]

Notes

By default, dgVoodoo 2 reports a virtual GPU with 256 MB of VRAM to the game, preventing the issue from happening.
