How does 117 compare to 1800? It looks lovely, and building diagonally is cool, but does it hold up?

The read dead redemption comparison is so interesting. They would appear to be really similar, but AC is so much more fun to me than RDR. Especially RDR 2 is so serious, and I really miss the fun power fantasy of AC in traversal, mission structure, combat and so on.

Check out David Graeber’s book Debt - The First 5000 Years. He argues that waaay before money people lived in complex credit economies, and that money only happened when there was war, so that you could pay soldiers.

Also barter economies only happen when people who have been used to money don’t have access to money anymore. Didn’t happen before money, or at least there’s no evidence of it.

So a supercomputer is a physics experiment? A lithography machine for producing microchips is a physics experiment?

I guess a fair threshold would be “when it can be run and maintained by engineers rather than scientists”. In which case, many quantum computers are indeed physics experiments.

Fair enough - sounds more like a problem with the specific study than with the quantum computer

In a way, regular computers are also physics experiments. As are fridges and cars. When does an experiment graduate to being a technology?

It’s not kind for sure, completely agree. My point was more that even if it’s unkind, it’s not necessarily racism or bioessentialism.

I think we must be kind to individuals, but still acknowledge problems with groups. That does require a shift in mindset to not feel personally impacted by statements about a group you belong to, which is easier said than done.

As I’m clearly in the wrong according to downvotes, could you elaborate on what I’m missing?

Yes. It really made me appreciate LOTR a lot more since it’s way more explicit about the backstory of the nine rings, Numenor, the elves going west and so on.

It’s high production value, good performances. Not great art, but I liked it. Some excellent acting in season 2 especially.

Half-asleep-sex can be amazing, there are different kinds of pleasure when you’re only half conscious.

Because of the current cultural context, yes. Even when you add “overall.” But I’d be completely open to you elucidating that you are referring to some non-racist point.

If there’s been a history of people stating this about a group meaning every single member, then you need to assume that’s what they mean. I don’t think that’s the case with men.

Not saying one meaning must be assumed over the other, you’ll have to depend on cultural context to understand the deeper meaning.

Compare for example “men can’t give birth” vs. “men love sports”. The former clearly intends to say “all men”, the latter intends “the group overall”.

One could understand “men are trash” as having the meaning “every single man is trash”, which would be in line with racism as you say. Or one could understand it as “the group overall is trash”, meaning any individual member isn’t necessarily trash.

The latter meaning is in some senses a matter of data - men are extremely overrepresented in e.g. violent crimes.

Which, again, doesn’t much about the individual man.

I guess that stuff is based a lot on the Tolkien race concepts. It’s an interesting thing when mythical creatures, often understood as inherently evil or chaotic, transform into playable races and fellow citizens in a fantasy world.

What is D&D racism? Orcs are barbaric ace wielders and elves are sophisticated archers?

The difference is that 10 years ago you needed billions of stable qubits, now you need 10k stable qubits.

And 10 years ago you had one or two stable qubits in the lab, now you have thousands.

You need 90 seats for a majority, the left wing bloc failed to get that. But they got closer to it than the right wing bloc.

Now the question is who the centrists will deal with, and who will deal with them.

Helt fair, det er også sådan det siges jo. Og jeg tror måske også det efterhånden er blevet sådan man skriver det :)
