Well now that’s not a bad point. Fortunately the weather was calm and cool and not too dry. And in the past I would have added, “and it’s in the city, not the hills,” but Altadena has proved a wildfire doesn’t have to be a brushfire.

Not exactly thousands.

I was watching the news as it happened and there were 20 employees onsite, all safely evacuated. One firefighter was injured, not seriously. Nobody lives there, it’s all warehouses, and at night they’ll have minimum staff. So in terms of harm to ordinary people it’s pretty minimal.

Mainly loss of livelihood for the 20 workers, but honestly it’s on the boss to redistribute them to help with the shift of orders through other warehouses. At least they should get any severance and paid days off they’re owed, and set up for worker’s comp.

LAFD firefighters are professional and paid, so it’s not calling a bunch of volunteers away from their jobs either.

Paper goods evidently burn really well but they apparently didn’t produce toxic fumes, or there would have been some warnings about it.

I’m not endorsing this kind of action, but it’s not like he set a nursing home or chemical plant on fire.

Or bombed a girls’ school full of children.

A magnificent infoload, thanks!

Would you need to kick up some moondust in order to get an effect like that?

You make it sound like one of those ‘50s “what she needs is a good spanking!” shrew-taming movies

Maglev shit, we need to be investing in teleport technology. Instead, any breakthroughs are being hushed up by Big Border.

Even more impressive, your cats are politely queueing up for the drinking fountain

You’ll have to get them their own TV and Barcalounger

Somewhat surprisingly, there’s no Q in skew.
Maybe it’s just that Wyoming is so empty

After the 🐘🐘🐘🐘 it’s all Turtle. But The Great A’Tuin doesn’t stand on anything. It/She/He/They swims through space, with a purpose and destination unknown to us.

I remember in one of the Coloured Fairy Books
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Langs%27_Fairy_Books and I’m not going to try to find which one, there was a story where a kid was hanging out with the fairies and they went to a house and his in the thatch. They sprinkled pepper on the daughter so she’d sneeze. “If she sneezes 3 times without a bless-you, we can steal her!” She does twice, no blessings. On the 3rd sneeze the kid yells BLESS YOU at the top of his lungs, the fairies scatter and she’s saved. So at the very least, I make sure nobody is stolen by the fairies. Colored or otherwise. Consent matters.

Tbf, the size of the fingers indicates the wineglass is much closer than her apparently equal-sized head.

I wonder who made the original tip. Probably one of those traumatized moderators whose reports had gone nowhere.

…. because they’ve forced their gay men to get trans surgery under threat of a death sentence

Since you’ve met Tiffany you should meet Eskarina and get a backdoor exploration into Unseen University. So try Equal Rites. Then for more wizards you can go back one to The Light Fantastic, or keep moving forward to explore the whole Discworld and read ‘em all. They each have unique qualities, a motley of new and recurring characters, and insights into some of the better and nastier aspects of our own world.

I like publication order, but if you just happen upon any of them someplace, read it. And as you’ll know already, his Young Adult writing is really only a matter of having a young protagonist. So don’t sleep on The Amazing Maurice either. It’s profound.
