An agreement between EU/CPTPP and MERCOSUR members to recognize credit card’s created in each members countries that of course meet stringent standards, could be possible. I mean if VISA and Mastercard could do it, why not cards created in other countries? I mean it’s a lot of work but the alternative is the status quo where the US shuts down your access when you do something they don’t like.

The answer is yes, we should be decoupling from the US as much as possible economically. If the government needs to create a crown corp to do it then let’s get it done.

Looks like he wants to eke out a majority rather than calling a general election. Personally i think he’d win a comfortable majority and gain better candidates, but polling has probably shown people aren’t wanting to go to the polls so soon. Otherwise i don’t see why he wouldn’t, he’s decimating the cons in popularity.

Yup, we aren’t joining the EU, we don’t need to. A large trading block of middle powers, CETA/CPTPP and eventually MERCOSUR and a few other countries is brewing. Not to mention reformation of the WTO, a “plan B” due to the dispute mechanism being sabotaged by the US for it’s own unilateral protectionist purpose. Let’s just hope the US gets bogged down in Iran and is too preoccupied to invade Canada before the mid-terms turns the US Congress and Senate against their president.

Free Trade with the US is coming to an end, we should never have integrated with the US as much as we did, but now we need to suck it up and pivot hard. Build sovereign control, from top to bottom, soup to nuts, servers, enterprise, banking, investment, supply chains, defense, everything that gives the US or any other hostile entity leverage over us.

The answer you’re looking for is yes China uses forced labour, Uighur, non Han, and political opponents. Yes we are going to continue to buy/sell from China because they are too big of an economy to ignore. Carney has spent the last year building trade and security alliances to lessen our reliance on hegemons and hyperscalers. It sucks, but like Carney said we have to face the world that is out there, not the one we wish it were. Our biggest ally has turned against us and we are managing amazingly well considering the massive pressure we are under.

This is more about middle powers versus hegemons and hyperscalers. We don’t have the leverage as individual nations on our own, an alliance of middle powers does when it comes to international trade and security negotiation.
