WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•Wednesday wins... what's going right recently?English
2·1 day agoBought a dress the other day that is very much not my usual style or colour which I needed for a christening I’m going to this Sunday. I’ve never actually been to a christening before but I don’t think an all black outfit alt fit in church in spring is really the play…
Problem is the shoulder and neckline is not what I usually wear and literally all my bras showed either strap or looked like I had a frumpy modesty cami underneath. So I made a last ditch effort today to find a bra style that would work for the dress and I managed it!!! Its exactly what I needed (and it gives the girls a little bit of a helping hand which is very welcome).
Just glad I got this in time otherwise it was back to square one with a different dress or having to think about a battle with sticky bras or boob tape which don’t seem fun if it remains this warm at the weekend…

4·1 day agoI love all dutch swearing, as a microbiologist there is something particularly satisfying being able to tell somebody to ‘krijg de tyfus’ or to call somebody a ‘pleurislijer’
Its the ‘MAP pride’ flag which is so fucking stupid to use even if its on a meme about Epstein as it just reinforces the idea that that the right have in thinking it is a valid and accepted lgbtq identity… There is literally no reason to ever use it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon: Older Kindles can no longer download e-booksEnglish
3·2 days agoAt least with kindle books bought from amazon you have to use their own software to transfer. They stopped the old app working which could download books to your computer so now they just have to check if the kindle it is connecting to is attached to your account and on a software version they support.

22·4 days agoI think you give too much credit to the morons who voted for economic suicide. They didn’t vote to have deals with Australia, they all thought we were so big and important that the EU would bend over backwards to give us a favourable trade deal even though every single expert on the subject disagreed. The Australia and Canada deals came up only after we shot ourselves in the head.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Most of plant based leather uses a lot of polyurethaneEnglish
4·5 days agoMy point was more that harmful chemicals in the sense of chromium salts etc. aren’t present in veg tan which, for the most part, is boiling it in a load of tree bark.
Since I adopted the mantra of ‘block early and often’ things have been much better and nothing of value has been lost.

38·6 days agoI do hobby-level leatherworking and I’m all here for real non-animal leathers but yeah, basically all of them, cactus, mango, pineapple leaf etc. all just get put on a PU backing…
I got excited for cork leather at one point but turns out that is also either PU backed or fabric backed (which is better but doesn’t really work as a direct replacement for leather, especially structurally).
There are a few I’m more excited for and I would love to get hold of but they still seem either experimental or used directly by the makers for their own finished products. Most are fungus based, so one is SCOBY leather, basically the big blob of microorganisms used to make kombucha can be grown in big flat sheets, dried and treated to make a leathery material but I’ve not seen many applications of it yet…
But mushroom/mycelial leather is the one I’m most hopeful for. Not only do some of them look like real leather but the random ‘grain’ of the mycelium has the potential to ape the natural fibrous grain of leather that gives it its strength. That is the one I’m really excited for.

6·6 days agoAnd veg tan? I try not to use chrome tan in stuff I make for both environmental reasons and the fact its a pain to work with but we have been veg tanning for thousands of years.
Whilst unlikely in sweden, you unfortunately can’t entirely rule out the fact that half the country desires to commit economic suicide to stop imaginary threats to sovereignty by choosing to leave EU…
Yeah but I bought an 8gb pi 5 on release (09/23) for £79. The same sku is now £168…
You would be shocked how fast objects get lost in even a small handbag… So many panic attacks thinking ive lost keys
I think so? I think ours used UniVerse whixh used UniBasic and UniQuery. I never had to use it in anger, I was mostly focused on supporting a different thing written in VB6…
I worked for a company that still supports a critical healthcare system that runs on Rocket U2 on AIX which is an evolution of PICK.

WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•Monday motivation... what are you going to get sorted this week?English
4·12 days agoHad to have my cat put to sleep the other day, I’m making an earnest attempt to clean and tidy the house. Whilst she was ill it was hard to keep the house in a decent state, my stress over her health and incontinence was really difficult to deal with.
I dunno, referring to somebody as a “total weapon” is very valid here

6·16 days agoI love Tony’s but I don’t know if it is because of how thick the bar is or if it is how irregular and hard to snap the chunks are (and the taste) but I find it so much harder to eat in moderation.

Yeah, it is basically the total opposite of what I need a dress to do for my body, would look great on some I’m sure but for me, absolutely not.
