I also *tried to focus on the newborn phase, not the newborn. It’s the collection of circumstances that are making me miserable, not the baby itself.

Regarding sleep training, my wife researched it exhaustively, and i think the earliest we’d try it is four months, but we’re more than willing to stop and try again if it fails the first try

We’ve also put immense effort into coming up with activities and one on one time with the toddler so there isn’t any resentment built

As for the selective amnesia, people remember the hilarity when the baby shits in their partners lap or makes a funny face or whatever. But that’s like .01% of the time

She’s in a PhD program and I’m in a masters program. We’ve decided that academia is uniquely awful for having children because, even if you do take time off, the work doesn’t go anywhere. No one else does it, and getting caught up gets more and more difficult

It is way confusing.

I agree, the bulk ferment went a touch farther than I usually let it go, so the dough was quite gassy and fragile when I shaped them. I think that’s where most of the inconsistency started

I use my thoroughly abused starter, making a new one would be insanely wasteful and annoying

Thanks, this was a big batch, multiplied everything by 1.75, was a real forearm workout mixing it.

Overall it turned out quite nicely. Nice variety of colors and the crumb is the perfect texture.

Of course, I’m always chasing that beautifully airy, perfect loaf, but this is a pretty comfortable plateau I’m at

FWIW I don’t use a mixer, just a big-ass steel bowl and mix by hand. I’m inclined to say it isn’t too hard to do manually, but I’ve been doing it for years and don’t have any joint issues in my hands, so my perspective may be skewed
